Make sure you have an experienced tour guide who can share the history of the Jesuits contribution to wine making in Clare. Breaker Morant was filmed here if you didn’t know. Part of the Burra passport tour. Had the place to ourselves during our visit. Was exactly as it appeared in the movie. Bonus was the real history of the site presented there. Informative regarding its history as a gaol and as a girls reformatory. Well worth the visit.

Turn in off Market Street as soon as you see Peacocks Chimney then head towards the Burra Mine Open Air Museum, continue pass the entrance to the carpark and head up the hill to the mine lookout. From here there was a great view looking over to the water filled open cut mine and in the distance a variety of mining buildings, a taster of interesting things to discover on our visit to the open air musuem. Information boards in the small carpark provide a visitor with a brief history of the site.
