Very nicely designed traditional looking shopping area with a good mix of local and national retailers, pedestrian zone with lots of free parking nearby. J&J Graham's deli & baker is a must.

Free parking after 3pm on the Portland Walk and Market Car park. Outdoor market is open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, casual traders welcome. Please call the market office or email us. This was a great way to spend a cold and wet January afternoon. Rheged is a huge visitor centre with lots of shopping opportunities.Outdoor clothing and accessories; food; beer; wines; pictures; souvenirs; and many other items produced locally. There are a number of restaurants spread over the three floors. Although we didn't eat, I did buy a tub of fresh ice cream, and thought it somewhat overpriced at £1.80 for one scoop of ice cream! There is a fascinating wall mounted pictorial historical feature, going back to the start of time! There is also a cinema, and we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the huge art exhibition. Admission to the centre is free, as is parking, and there is a handy fuel service station on site. Great for a journey break, and within a mile of the M6. Outside, although closed when we visited, there is a huge play area for the kids. You can even buy a plaster cast model, and sit for an hour or so, transforming it into a work of art, with paint and brushes supplied by the shop. Overall a lovely afternoon, and one we will certainly repeat with our grandchildren when they next come to Cumbria.

We have visited this store a couple of times on seperate trips and purchsed goods from this store, as we like the style and quality of the goods sold here. On our last visit to Cumbria (from Australia) in August of 2019 we bought a lovely travel bag from the "On Sale" section along with other goods. When we got back to our lodgings we discovered there was provision for a shoulder strap, but no shoulder strap could be found in the bag. As we we on our way to Yorkshire next, we telephoned the shop and spoke to Jackie who served me the prevous day, and she confirmed there should be a strap supplied with the bag and to return to the shop (which unfortunately we couldn't do). After a few phone calls Jackie in association with Lakeland's Customer Care people had arranged for a new strap to be forwarded to our end destination in the UK. I'm very happy with the travel bag and use it constantly. This is one happy and satisfied customer, thank you Jackie and Lakeland CC.
