Wander around the garden and explore the buildings, all of which have been renovated using eco-materials as part of a community project. my friends who lived in the region took me to the oyster cabins on ile d'oleron on a cold windy day...and i loved it! they are intended for the summer tourist crowd, but i hate tourists, crowds and summer, so to me this was just perfect. the cabins were mostly closed, but still were wonderful to photograph in their range of bright colours. we wandered around in peace and took lots of snaps of the shacks and the boats at low tide before heading off to a local brasserie for lunch. obviously not the time for you if you want some sunshine and oysters, but if like me, you prefer something a little more atmospheric and moody, then winter at the cabins is the place to be!
