10 Playgrounds in California That You Shouldn't Miss

April 20, 2022 Moriah Teneyck

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

Traveling to Ojai we stumbled across Libby Park. So why not go to Bart’s books get a book, drop by subway grab a sandwich and just spend the rest the day relaxing in the sun in multiple places around the park. You can watch the kids play maybe even hear something at the bowl or watch some tennis. A beautiful park.

Who knew Southern California had an international-like escape. Old buildings and churches, open city squares for dining under umbrellas with fountains and birds, vendors, huge outdoor piano organ, church bells ringing, museums, botanical gardens, bridges, zoo, on and on and on and on...you could spend a whole day here easily. I felt moderately like I was back in Prague or Guatemala. Such a cool place.

Adventure Playground

Reviewed By TyKaGo - Berkeley, United States

This playground is truly unique and an early educators dream. All the research raves about the benefits of unstructured outdoor play. This playground will show you first hand how amazing play is. There are no highly lacquered new structures... No rubber chips lining the ground... No patches of super green grass. Think brown, dirt, rustic. This is a child's paradise. Leave the cute frilly clothes back at home... make sure they wear closed toe shoes and something that can get really dirty, because they are going to get really dirty. They can play, hunt for nails with the most rustic metal detector you have ever seen, turn the nails in for paint buckets or other tools like a saw or hammer, they can build and tinker... There is also a zipline that helps them attract even more dirt as if that is possible. Such a fun playground - not to be missed, and did I mention it is mostly free? They do offer a drop off service for a few hours for a fee if the child is over a certain age - make sure to check out their website for details on this and to check their open hours.
