Tennyson Down

Reviewed By NLJ000 - Folkestone, United Kingdom

We walked from Freshwater up over the Tennyson Downs (past the monument) to the Needles, then past Alum Bay to the Needless Visitor area and back along the bottom of the Downs (West Down?) to arrive back in Freshwater. A long but relatively easy and absolutely beautiful walk, incredible views and so peaceful up on the Downs. Lots of birds and butterflies to spot. Highly recommended for a day out (the round trip walk including a stop at the Needles and the visitor area took around 4-5 hours and we weren't in a rush).

Last year we bought a Grand D 600 RIB from Marine Matters. At the time we (co-owners) were told by Henry (‘H’) that this was just the beginning of a worthwhile relationship with the boatyard. The promise of excellent after sales service and invitations to join various boating social events were sure to follow he said. Well, while our new boat met our expectations it did develop a couple of minor faults which we pointed out to H at the end of the season. I received an email reply back the same day with the assurance that both were covered under warranty along with an arrangement to pick the boat up from our dry stack, transport back to Marine Matters boatyard, perform the repairs and return. We were kept fully informed by Rich, the workshop manager, at all stages. Today, we inspected the repairs and couldn’t have been more pleased. So, our experience thus far is that H and his team back up their pre sales promises when it comes to after sales services. Thanks guys!

Golf School UK

I wanted to spend a weekend with my sister, in an effort to improve our golf and make a break of it. I stumbled across Golf School UK and certainly hit the jackpot. We stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights, which was clean and convenient and enjoyed our break and lunch at the clubhouse. The staff were very welcoming and gave a prompt service. As the clubhouse restaurant wasn’t open in the evenings, we found a couple of fabulous local restaurants. Now on to the most important part, namely the golf and in particular Tom North, our golf pro who gave us excellent tuition. There were four of us in a group and he treated us all as individuals, focusing on the areas, where we needed to improve our game. In particular, he spent a lot of time helping me with my swing and how I could increase distance. Tom was more than helpful, patient and went to great lengths in explaining every aspect of the game. He took videos of us in the swing studio, where he broke down each section of the swing process, showing a before and after video, which he emailed to us to work on. Tom also gave us tuition on bunker shots, chipping, pitching, low shots under trees, putting and lob shots and we finished by playing 9 holes. This was the 2 day intensive course and although tiring, it has given me lots to work on and I am confident my game will improve. The golf school is an excellent venue as it has so many learning facilities. Tom is completely dedicated to teaching and very generous with his time. I felt he genuinely wanted to help me improve my game. We were very lucky with the weather as it was warm and sunny. We had a fabulous break and will be returning!

The gardens are packed with conifers and shrubs in the Japanese style of Niwaki, that will make you want to dash home and start gardening... Visited the model village during our motorhome holiday. What a delightful place! From the lady who sold us the tickets to the very end had us beaming with how lovely this place is! The attention to detail is just a sight to behold and there are lots of funny little bits here and there like the dog singing along with the village band and the streaker on the football pitch. Even at the churches you could hear the congregation singing. Just wonderful. It is amazingly well designed and looked after. The gardeners are a credit and the choice of plants is so clever to turn a small manicured sapling into a mighty oak overlooking the village cricket match. £5 entry fee is more than worth it (you can go round again viia a little gate near the entrance) and we couldn’t recommend it more if you are in the area. I am amazed that anyone could find anything negative to say about the place. I defy you not to have a smile on your face as you look around. We had great fun doing the little quiz they give you and spotting the squirrels. All in all a delightful Experience.

Goodwood Motor Circuit

Reviewed By Spenno1967 - Shepperton, United Kingdom

On arrival you are instantly taken back in time 70 years.. A beautiful Art Deco style racing circuit set in beautifully kept grounds.. I was met by a friendly lady who explained where to park and where to go to sign in clearly and cheerfully. This being Covid times she also took our temperatures, which fortunately both myself and my girlfriend both passed. I was then pointed in the direction to park my car..This was in one of the original Paddock areas where some fantastic cars and drivers of the past have graced. I parked and walked over to the sign in point. Again met by friendly staff all wearing masks who offered hand sanitizer and handed us a Covid awareness form to fill out. Then onto the main sign in point at the rear of the Jackie Stewart building..Again friendly staff all wearing masks who checked my driving licence. I was pointed to the Driver briefing area where we were all given a briefing of the day and told where the refreshments and toilets are as well as where spectating can be done.. The drivers were all told to queue by the manufacturer flags were of the cars we were to drive. In my case Audi, as I'd opted for a V10 R8. After a few minutes Simon came over to me and led me to the car. A beautiful well kept R8. He then proceeded to wipe down all the contact points in the car with antiviral antibacterial wipes and then asked me to get into it. Simon is a very calm clear speaking instructor and I felt at ease with his easy to understand instruction and in no time I was giving the Audi full throttle and changing the paddle shift gearbox up and down and pushing the car hard. When my drive had finished I parked the Audi and then as my package included a Hotlap with an instructor in a BMW M3 waited by the flag for this.. Possibly the youngest member of Everymans very professional polite team gave me a crash helmet to wear as obviously the Hotlap with an instructor would be more dangerous than my drive in the R8.. After a short while Graham ( Who turns out to be the event Manager and also extremely fast driver) came to greet me. We got into a late Model again mint car but this time a BMW M3. I climbed in and buckled up. Graham switched on the engine and then turned off the toys as he said, being the Traction control and the ABS. He asked 'Had I enjoyed my day so far?" I obviously said "Yes". He said "You,re going to love this then". He wasn't kidding. I didnt realise the M3 was such a weapon. Within seconds of leaving the Pitlane we hitting the 1st bend. The speed was incredible as was his driving. The whole lap flew by and he showed his skill at taming this beast of a car along straights and tight bends.. I was grinning from ear to ear and thanked him so much for topping my experience off with something I'll never forget. Would I go again? What do you think?.. A million percent yes. Overall a fantastic experience with a very professional company in fantastic surroundings that is known as Glorious Goodwood.. Thankyou Simon and Graham. All the fantastic stewards and Goodwood..A day I'll never forget..And a huge thankyou to my girlfriend Stacey for a Brilliant day.
