A definite must for anyone visiting Bali. This is one of the trips which my husband and I took during our 11 day stay in Bali and it was by far the best. After visiting the local school and meeting the lovely children, we were welcomed into this traditional Balinese home and were made to feel so at home. What a memorable day!

Toraja is situated in the north of makassar the capital of south sulawesi and has a culture that is still unique to be seen until nowdays also has beautiful natural scenery. Toraja's unique culture is important and interesting to see such as:Various of burial sites, the dead effigies, the dead person is still kept in the family house,Traditional houses and rice barns and the most interesting to see in Toraja is the traditional ceremonies such as:The funeral ceremony, wedding and a new house ceremony also ma'nene ritual but we didn't see the ma'nene ritual because we visited Toraja in february 2020. Toraja has incredible views for the nature such as:ricefield terraces, beautiful views of countryside with local houses, mountains, hills, bamboo forest even Toraja has very good coffee that's why we could see coffee plantations beside cacao plantations everywhere around the region. Torajan people are nice people and really welcoming also very tolerant. When we explored Toraja for 2 days a culture tour and 2 days trekking tour, we had a very memorable trip with an experienced and a very professional local guide Mr.Arru. Don't hesitate to contact Mr.Arru if the travelers will need information about Toraja tour and trekking, rafting,Toraja traditional ceremonies information and so on.he is a reliable and great guide in Toraja. Penglipuran

We visited here one afternoon and we loved this place. It was very quiet with a few bus tours. The village was clean and very unique. We walked through a number of the yards in the village and we found the locals were very hospitable and friendly. We chatted with a few of them. Each home usually sells something which is one of the ways they support the village. We bought some snacks from one and souvenirs from another. We chatted with one villager doing bonsai in his yard. We love how unique, quaint and clean this village is. The even have some "home stay" units where you can stay for the night in the village. I heard they were about ~ IDR 375,000. Depending on your tastes, staying for a night might could be an option to experience the village first hand. Will highly recommend for a visit.

Inner Baduy

Reviewed By stellagradiana - Nusa Dua, Indonesia

It took 5 hours to walk from Ciboleger bus stop to Inner Baduy- It's a home for Baduy tribe that refused electricity and technology. The culture is so strong that they rejected government's offer on funding or development project, such as building proper toilets for them. The reason is so simple: Letting the government doing once means giving them permission to do other projects that may destroy the natural ecosystem. The people still bathe and do their business in the river. But they have no skin problems. The people are open to visitors.

Get an early start from Rantepao (5:15 am) to go on scooter to the top of Lolay , and if it rained the evening in the vally you'll be rewarded by an amazing sunset above a sea of clouds. Raise your head west and go treat yourself with a Toraja coffe from the wooden terrace of Cafè Lolay (above the scenic spot) wich hangs on a cliff.

Melo Village

Reviewed By Helen_JannesonBense - Perth, Australia

I was so grateful to experience the mesmerising Tetek Alu and Caci dance with the local tribe in Melo Village. These dances are an important part of their cultural identity and ceremonial life. The ocean vista from high in the mountains is absolutely breathtaking. Supporting locals is an important part of sustainable tourism and why I highly recommend a visit. It's also the most enriching experience and one of the highlights of my Komodo island tour. Make sure to buy your art and treasures directly from the locals too and always show respect for their customs and cultural protocols.
