We have been here many times with our weekend visitors from age 3 to 90. It is always a joy to return and see the improvement in the animals as they are socialized and brought back to health after bad experiences . Even though it was raining our young visitors were insistent that they had their annual trip to the farm .Today the large horse that had been attacked by a mountain lion was so friendly and bowed to us. Such a change since the first time we saw him. Today our young visitors were feeding the animals with carrots and picking up the newly born hens. Thanks to the founder and the many volunteers that share their stories about the animals and make th visit enjoyable.

We enjoy the Beckwith Trail throughout the year. The path is easy to walk on in Spring, Summer and Fall. It’s a beautiful place to cross country ski in the winter. There are wonderful views and friendly people who also enjoy the trail. We highly recommend this nature adventure.

We are a group of nature lovers and decided to book a cottage there for a weekend getaway. It was a unique experience for us. The cottage was clean, comfy, well furnished, and a decent place to stay. There’s also a nice restaurant close by. The highlight of the trip was the Canopy Walk tour, with canoeing and hiking. It was fun and we love it!! Ted and Page were amazing in their jobs. If you love nature and the outdoors, Haliburton Forest is the place to be...Lakes, forest, trails, wildlife...We got to see the wolves at the Wolves Centre and strong packs of huskies (for winter dog sledding). The staff were nice and very helpful. Be aware that there’s a swarm of mosquitoes (in June). Just come prepared. Other than that, it was our first time in HFWR and we had a great time. Highly recommended.

Minden Wild Water Preserve

Reviewed By Cass8-4U - London, Canada

Our Innkeeper suggested we visit the White Water Preserve since it was close by - up #20 just north of Minden. It’s a beautiful area with trails along the raging Gull River. We were excited to see a kayaker maneuvering his way through the rapids and later discovered the Preserve is a training ground for competitive kayaking! In fact, the 2015 Pan Am canoe events were held here as well as the 2019 open Canoe Nationals so it’s a world class venue. The course has rapids, Whitehorse Falls, a cave and recovery spot- all new and interesting for me. We spoke with one of the kayakers who was trudging back to his car with his kayak on his back and he compared the dangers involved to that of down hill skiing or moguls! We enjoyed the sights along the river’s edge, then followed the path ( made a bit slippery by recent rain on fallen leaves) to the Kissing Bridge before returning to our car. There is a campground, picnic area and playground on the other side of the river off Bethel Road. Unique experience - recommended!

Parrot Partner

Interactive training tours three times a week (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 pm.) Parrot Partners Canada is a registered charity that specializes in the rehabilitation, training and adoption of parrots. We also educate the public on the plight of parrots both in our homes and in their natural habitats. Some of the parrot species in our care are threatened in their native habitats and during our tours we discuss the reasons and what we can do to help. Under the direction of our tour guides and trainers, participants help us maintain the socialization and training of our permanent residents as well as that of our adoptable parrots.

I have volunteered at Parrot Partners Canada (PPC) for over two years and recommend the aviary as a wonderful place for families to visit. PPC sets a very high bio-standard for parrot care ensuring proper diet and nutrition, bio-hygiene, and appropriate behavioral interaction and education. Anyone who loves birds will love PPC.
