10 Nature & Parks in Central Greece That You Shouldn't Miss

January 5, 2022 Claudia Navarrete

Continental Greece (Greek: Στερεά Ελλάδα, Stereá Elláda; formerly Χέρσος Ἑλλάς, Chérsos Ellás), colloquially known as Roúmeli (Ρούμελη), is a traditional geographic region of Greece. In English the area is usually called Central Greece, but the equivalent Greek term (Κεντρική Ελλάδα, Kentrikí Elláda) is more rarely used.

Recreational Park

I couldn't imagine that there is such a place in Greece. "Well done" for the people-volunteers who designed and made this park. It has almost everything. You can walk, you can enjoy many different activities in nature, you can even play bowling and swim (in summer)! We spend tho hours walking and I'm not a trekking person at all. Hope to go again and explore the whole area soon.

Panta Vrechei Canyon

Reviewed By AndreasBrok - Chania Town, Greece

The canyon is a hidden jem. Be prepared to wet yourself on the river and walk for approximately 45 min till you get to its impressive point where water falls from all the edges of the canyon. The scenery is otherworldly and diving in the cold water under the falls is definitely a worth living experience. The river trek is easy, not tiring at all, does not require any experience or special equipment and it is also excellent for families (though I would recommend not too young children). The road to get there is kinda rough - you will need a proper 4x4 vehicle to get there. If you don't have such a vehicle, you can use a guide, such as Trekking Hellas, as we did and I highly recommend that.

Katafygio-Oiti

katafygio oiti is located between the mountains giona and oiti, it is about a multiactive sports café. You could say it is an , alternative café. This place is unique in our country because, although it is not a ski center, you can enjoy free ride ski and snowboard. The location is in 1245m surrounded by the forrest ,and katafygio oiti is traditionally stone made ,according to the environment. The view is magnificent.the "pyramide" of giona. The 5th highest mountain of Greece which our visitors can admire sitting on the balcony of the cafe. You can also enjoy coffee, mountain tea, a big variety of hot chocolate ,and home made cookies sweets etc . The full of adventure activities take place all over the year but specially winter is the ideal season for katafygio oiti.

I've visited Katafygio Oiti multiple times and whatever the season was, i was fully satisfied because i'm fond of mountain activities. In Winter i had the chance to ski on pure, soft, white snow without the crowd of a ski center. Also i went for a ride into the forest with a snowmobile, it was perfect. In Summer or Autumn there are so many trails for hiking that makes this place tempting all the seasons of the year. Τhe staff is very pleasant and seems to enjoy what it's doing. So in conclusion, it's a proof that Greece has also great mountain destinaitions. And it's only 2,5 hours from Athens

Mount Parnassus

A beautiful mountain offering scenic views of the surrounding olive groves and countryside.

The only word that can describe the view from on top the mountain side is breathtaking. The climb was a pull for me but I stopped at every platform to catch my breath and made it to the top. There is a stadium at the top that was used before the Olympic games was founded in Olympia. You get a sense of the amount of people in ancient times that walked where I was walking. The climb to the top is very much worth the effort.

Waterfall of Drimona

Reviewed By jovanadisic - Pozarevac, Serbia

Beautiful place worth visiting. We got there from the top, there is a parking and little caffe. Signs are all in greek, so don’t get confused when you get there. Find the stairs that go down and follow them. Waterfall is not very far away! You will hear the water. Rocks, little waterfalls, I really loved it all. We climed and walked all over. Some people were swimming in the pond, but it’s very small and it’s more fun to clime around.
