Good budget option in the center of Arequipa

Reviewed By Amecameca

I looked around a lot in the central area of Arequipa and found this to be the best of the cheaper places .The rooms were also warmer than some of the other places I looked at. I found the breakfast ok as most hotels provide no breakfast and here there is at least a small one.

very quiet, ( except the dog barking sometimes at night) nicely furnished, good location with a beautiful view, very helpful people although I would advise first to go to the bus terminal because they do not know much about buses: you can easily go to many places in the valley just using public transport, just check and ask the right persons because it can be tricky to find out even at the bus station (and I speak Spanish...). breakfast is good but a bit too light... freshly squeezed fruit juice, a slice of avocado, one egg ... it's ok for a small appetite...

I booked a room at Casona Moya through one of the biggest booking platforms. The ad was accompanied by details and pictures. I paid for a large, comfortable double room with a bathroom for the use of one person but the room I was given upon arrival was nothing like described. It was super tiny, had no windows (!), no ventilation whatsoever, there were insects on the walls and in the air, a TV rack with no TV, no place to hang a jacket, no wardrobe, no sofa; even though it was all listed on the booking platform. There was a walk-through bathroom in my room with a second (not lockable, see through) door leading to another room where one of the relatives, I suppose, lived and watched loud TV. In a nutshell, what was written in the ad was pure science fiction and I felt tricked with what I was being offered. Upon my request, the owner, Mr Moya, agreed to change my room but the alternative room I was offered was even further detached from the false advertising on the internet. The owner started getting frustrated, I reckon, and when I asked for some time he started texting me on Whatsapp insulting me and saying that I was not able to appreciate a real beauty of a XVI century casona (falsely being presented on the internet in the first place). With no reaction or decision on my end, Mr Moya wrote that there were plenty of accommodation in the centre, I was free to search for something else and that he would gladly cancel my booking for free. So basically, before I was able to make a decision about what to do, I was being uninvited from Casona Moya. After these rude messages, I had no choice but to pack my heavy bags, leave and go search for somewhere else to stay. All in all, I have travelled and stayed at various types of accommodations around the world but I, honestly, never came across such a rude, dishonest host as Mr Moya. I am quite surprised the accommodation has, supposedly, such good ratings (friends?family?). I felt extremely uncomfortable at the property (the short time I spent there) and I am writing this review hoping other travellers will avoid the unpleasant disappointment.

Family feeling stay

I stayed at La Casa De Chamo for almost a month, my experience was amazing as it felt like home. Anita and Chamo made me felt welcome to their place and treated me more as a friend/family more than a customer. Would recommend this place if you are staying in Arequipa, affordable and close to the centre.

Hot springs were great and price quality ratio for the room was ok. However, the service was horrible. The lady at the reception clearly didn’t like her job as she was constantly grumpy and she spoke/understood not 1 word English. The streetdogs were very aggresive and while we were sitting at the table they started fighting underneath our table and biting etc. We did not receive 1 “are you ok” or anything, they were just laughing. There was no concern for our safety and they made very little effort to make us enjoy our stay.
