10 Lessons & Workshops in New Mexico That You Shouldn't Miss

March 2, 2022 Hector Krause

With its rich cultural heritage from Native American and Spanish settlers, New Mexico has been both a Spanish colony and a Mexican colony, and still retains a strong individual identity within the United States. The landscape is breathtaking, the food incredible, and there is a thriving cultural scene, all of which makes New Mexico, and Santa Fe in particular, a great place all year long.

I have a modest amount of glass-blowing experience, having over 35 recent hours of hot-shop exposure and instruction. Recognize that this is not extensive experience, just enough to know the terminology, but not enough to feel “accomplished “ in any aspect of this art. A survey of the hot-shop and showroom identified a well organized and talented group of artists. I have participated in other one-on-one glass blowing experiences, but this class with CIa as my tutor had a very favorable outcome. I was able to assist in the creation of a rather handsome wine decanter, a project that was individually “well over my pay grade.” Cia first interviewed me, to gain not only some idea of my skills, but to understand my primary goals of the session. As the hour went on, she was able to further identify my strengths and weaknesses on the fly and provided me with the necessary instruction and hands-on assistance when needed throughout the lesson. I highly recommend the Liquid Light Glass organization, studio and artists. It’s a fascinating art and LLG shows it in the best possible (liquid) light.

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful pottery class with Theo. It was our first time ever working with clay and Theo made us feel so comfortable; he’s an amazing teacher. We completed 5 pieces in 1.5 hours. Theo was very accommodating in helping us get them back home to VA as well. I was unable to leave without buying one of Theo’s pieces as well, his work is so beautiful!! Definitely recommend this experience in Santa Fe!!

New Mexico Pinon Coffee

Twenty years ago, New Mexico Pinon Coffee Company started with the original owner roasting coffee out of the back of his classic red pickup truck in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today, New Mexico Pinon Coffee is one of the largest coffee roasters in the state of New Mexico, roasting over 1 million pounds of coffee since 2015. My daughter wanted this brand of Pinon Coffee and some local Pinon incense and I was able to get them both in one stop! But I was unprepared for the easy grace of the shopkeeper and her willingness to go the extra mile to get my daughter's things shipped to the Northwest. I will go back just because they were so sweet.
