The Earl of Sussex

A great place to defrost the winter chills or cool off any summer evening. We draw patrons of all ages, from twenty-something's to seasoned regulars, minus the boisterous happy-hour set. Reservoir Lounge

This perennial favorite is a modern-day speakeasy. The cramped space -- it seats only 100 -- is below street level, yet feels intimate rather than claustrophobic. Live jazz, whether Dixieland, New Orleans, or swing, belts out 6 nights a week. The epicenter for the swing dance craze in Toronto, this is still the place to watch glam hepcats groove.

Rex Jazz and Blues Bar

This watering hole has been drawing jazz fans since it first opened in 1951. Admittedly the decor hasn't changed much since the old days, but the sounds you'll find here are cutting edge. The Rex lures top local and international talent; Tuesday is the weekly jam night.

This really is the place to go in Toronto to hear live jazz. Good atmosphere, find sound system, and the food is reasonable priced. Not a huge assortment of craft beers---but we were able to find something we all liked and had a pitcher. Music wise I liked the fact that they are willing to book groups who aren't necessarily playing your standard bebop or old standards style jazz. They have quite a variety, and this wonderful group (Neon Eagle) was led by a pedal steel guitarist (Mike Eckert) of all people. And they were terrific! I'll be back!

We had the pleasure of going to the Jazz Lounge at Brookstreet when the HML trio were performing. To our surprise, it was quite the busy evening for a Thursday night. The atmosphere itself was very welcoming and had various seating options. We particularly enjoyed the purple lighting at the bar and the red piano. The staff and kitchen were also quite accommodating by providing us with a cheese plate which wasnt available on the menu. We had small bites which consisted of sweet potatoes and cauliflower wings which were ok. The drinks were very tasty for classic drinks. They could have more adventurous options for their drinks. Another inconvenience is the location of the Jazz bar, it is quite the trek from the downtown core. Overall, The Sloth eaters give it two thumbs up !
