Where do I start? We all had such a great time camping on the island! Had heaps of fun driving on some sand dunes, exploring around the island, discovering hidden tracks, secluded beaches, awesome fishing and the list goes on! I love the western part of the island.. it’s more rugged and is so remote with ocean views that are so spectacular. It should be on everyone’s bucket list..journey to get to this island is such a hike but it is so very worth it!

There are three groups of islands. I spent my holidays on Post Office Island in the Pelsaert Group. It was rock lobster fishing, now pearls.

Mackerel Islands

The Mackerel Islands are surrounded by the world's most spectacular amusement park: the Indian Ocean. 22 kilometres off the coast of Onslow, Western Australia, the waters here are teeming with a carnival of marine life. A mask and snorkel gives kids unlimited entry to admire the action. For a front row seat, try diving through the riotous colour of the coral gardens. Prefer games of skill? Test your strength above water as you try and haul in a Red Emperor or Spanish Mackerel. We're in the Pilbara's fishiest waters so no one goes home empty handed. On land, the show continues with turtle hatchings and amazing wildlife. The landscape offers a classical north-western Australian experience, abound with vegetation typical of the region. The calm, relaxed nature of the islands provides an ideal escape for singles, couples, families and groups. One has only to step foot onto the islands to experience simultaneous disconnect and reconnect - disconnect from life's bustle and reconnect with those who matter the most.

Woody Island simply gets better! I have been coming here annually for at least 12 years, but the last two visits have excelled. New canvas tents, with comfortable double beds, a hard and soft pillow, crisp white sheets. All set under trees with ocean views. The island is a 240ha nature reserve with stunning walk trails having views of the coastline and islands in the archipelago. Wildlife includes numerous bird species, quails, skinks, kangaroos....but no snakes. The visitors Center has stunning ocean views, a bar and a small but tasty menu. If you want a totally relaxing holiday, this takes some beating.
