If you ask me to pick only one must visit in Taitung, no doubt it's San Xian Tai. I went on a super windy and rainy day, which made it hard to cross the Arch Bridge. Anyway, I crossed the bridge, but I'm unable to walk around the island due to bad weather. Still, it's worth the visit as the view is spectacular. Basically, Island, Sea, Sand, Beach, Arch bridge, these words summarize the place and make a beautiful picture. I hope to visit again with a different weather.

Kinmen Island

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

In 1958, China attempted to invade Kinmen which was then known as Quemoy. The invasion almost sparked World War III. The invaders were repulsed by the Taiwan forces, led by President Chiang Kai-shek. Kinmen is 10 km (6 miles) from Shamen, on the Chinese mainland. You can hire a telescope; you can clearly see people moving around on the mainland. Kinmen is a small island, around 150 square kms. Kinmen is a traditional Chinese society, there is a lot to see, despite its small size

Orchid Island(Lanyu)

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Orchid Island, also called Lanyu, is a tropical island off the south-east coast of Taiwan. We took a trip in a light plane, it is about half an hour from Taitung Airport. You can also take a ferry. The island is 45 km2 (17 miles2). It has many natural sights, including endemic species. Green turtles and humpback whales can also be found. The Tao, one of Taiwan's most intact, indigenous tribes, form the bulk of the population. The coral reefs are quite spectacular. The annual Flying Fish Festival is worth noting. By the way, part of the island forms a storage depot for Taipower's three nuclear power stations. There have been several protests by the native people, but the waste dump remains.
