Lovely hotel

Reviewed By stephenmZ6936YC

We booked a night in the feature suite through country breaks. We got a bottle of prosecco in our room and £45pp towards our evening meal. The room is open plan and large. It has a freestanding bath and bathroom at one end and a bedroom at the other. We were on the first floor in a corner at the end of the corridoor. It is a bit tight on staircases but this is a very old building that has evolved over years, The staff were friendly and helpfull. The parking is not ideal but we managed to get in a 3hr bay. Apparently the trafic wardens have an agreement with the hotel that they will ignore the 3hrs bays and only ticket the 1hr bays. I didn't over stay in the bay so can't vouch for this. If you do book this hotel please bear in mind it is on a corner near the main roads in the town/village and it's busy for such a small place. So if your a light sleeper then don't open your room window or keep it shut. We would definately come back to the hotel again and would reccommend it.

Tea Extravagance ... (extravagant prices, not the tea)

Reviewed By Alan C

Ordered "loose leaf tea" from the menu. For reference, on their menu a Peroni beer is the same price. Received a teapot with a twinings teabag. With service charge this came in at £5.34 per person (three of us had a bill for over £16 ... for twinings tea, nothing else!) From Waitrose's website : a twinings teabag costs less than 5 pence. I know it costs more to boil water these days, but this is an astonishing money-making-racket.

Room secure from the public. It was basic but very clean and the customers needs have been well provided for. Crisp white bed linen and fluffy towels, shampoo and soap in abundance and the room was cleaned and re stocked daily with tea coffee etc. Breakfast choices excellent. Great location for Blenheim Palace and Bladon with good bus links to the city of Oxford. Woodstock also has some great pubs and restaurants all within a 2min walk of the Buttery. Overall great value for money offering a better standard of customer care by comparison to others in the area. Lovely informal pub with bags of character, in an excellent location for walking to Blenheim. Really superb staff, and a very welcoming and friendly owner. They dealt with any queries immediately. Provided good information regarding parking. Buses over the road make it easier to travel into Oxford than drive and try to park. Good, reasonably priced food in the bar/restaurant. Tasty generous breakfast with enough choice. Large and spacious room and comfortable bed plus roomy shower in the bathroom. Fluffy bathrobes were a nice touch. Disliked · Technical problems at the time with wifi in the bedrooms which management are aware of and trying to remedy asap. They did apologise. Perhaps provide earplugs for people troubled by the traffic noise which may have only been relevant to our room position.
