The Cott Inn

The famous Cott Inn in Dartington is one of the oldest thatched inns in Britain. It is reputed to have been built in the reign of Edward II (1307 to 1327) and has been an Inn / Pub since 1320. Situated in the village of Dartington near Totnes, surrounded by beautiful countryside, The Cott Inn is a charming traditional family-run pub. We are proud to serve excellent locally-sourced seasonal food, fine wines and well-kept ales, including daily fish specials and fabulous Sunday roast lunches. Perfect for romantic dinners and evenings out with friends. The Cott Inn is also a great venue for private parties with a separate dining room for up to 30 people. Come and enjoy the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, with cosy log fires in the winter months and a large, pretty garden and patio area in warmer weather.

Beautiful stay in Dartington

Reviewed By Heather A

Why wouldn't someone stay here is the question? It's filled with charm, every single staff member was extremely friendly. The bed was SO comfortable and the room was very modern for such a historic property. The shower was amazing and the bathroom very spacious. We had a delicious breakfast and chatted with the Inn's owners before heading off the next day. This is a busy pub and restaurant - with excellent food and lovely outdoor seating areas - but we were ready for a lively space after 4 days of hiking in Dartmoor. I hope we'll return one day.

What a stunning place to stay. Little historical gem ...as a history person i loved the setting.. Such personal attention ...the breakfast fruit salad was adjusted to take account of my allergy and was divine. Rest of the food was such high quality. Throughout 6* service.

Good choice

Reviewed By honestyDevon

I originally booked a Saturday night stay during Jubilee weekend; realising that my husband was going fishing at Frogmore at 'silly-o'clock' in the morning, I booked a second night. Parking at the Hotel was tight to say the least as it is a very small area, but, with a little alteration, this could be improved. The corner spot is too tight if someone has parked in the side bay. However, if the lines are repainted a little way towards the entrance, it would be fine and enable easier access. This was proved to be the case when on the second night, a large van was parked in that area but nearer the entrance. Do take this on board. There was a wedding on at the Hotel so obviously, everyone was having a good time, nice to see, but it was noisy and we were concerned we would be kept awake at night. It wasn't a problem; the very helpful young man on reception advised us that the music would cease at 10.30 p.m. and in any event, we couldn't hear it in room 10. This was small room with twin beds; the shower, though too small for my husband was powerful. The downside of this room is that it faces the road and at around 8.00 a.m. on Monday morning, school buses were parked outside with their engines running. The location was perfect for me and I felt safe; all of the staff were helpful and we only had one meal there which was average; I wasn't hungry so ordered the House Salad, with prawns. This dish definitely needs some improvement. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Royal Seven Stars and would definitely stay there again when next in the area (and it would be great if the above improvements were made).

John and Sandra were exceptionally gracious hosts who made us feel so welcome with a sumptuous breakfast and helpful local advice. To add to this, John provided a walking stick fashioned from local wood for me to use on our local walks! The room we had was also very convenient in that we did not have to lug our luggage up stairs.

We arrived at a stunning location with beautiful panoramic views across the rooftops to the River Dart and the mill pond. David and Helen gave us a very warm welcome. We had a balcony room that was exceptionally spacious and well appointed. The views at night were amazing with the church and pub lit up and the stars shining overhead, very little light pollution. The breakfast was excellent with a wide choice available and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely like to stay here again.

Spoilt for choice with the menu as always. Something for everyone on the menu. Hubby chose burger and I had lamb shank... both excellent. Could not fault anything. Staff were amazing as always.. looking forward to our next visit already. A really popular place to eat, some nights with live music too.
