Holiday to remember

We arrived at the hotel after a 3 hour delay at Manchester airport extremely tired and weary. The first person we met was Stanley on reception and what a lovely welcome, Stanley was both professional and welcoming. Although we were B&B we were offered food and refreshments which was most welcome. The hotel itself is flawless modern, stylish and spotless. As it was 2am in the morning Stanley did show us to our room 216 which was very tastefully furnished and comfortable. The following morning we were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful sea views and balcony. Our reservation was for 7 days and i can honestly say during that time we were spoilt and treated so well by all the staff on reception in the restaurant and at the bar. As world wide travelers we have experienced some lovely hotels, however never have we stayed in a hotel where we have been treated with such respect and kindness and for that we are truly grateful. There was a vast array of food at breakfast and the service was outstanding. The restaurant in the evening was run with the same commitment and dedication by all the staff and the Rosso di Primitivo was delicious. Sadly on the 6th July our 7 day vacation came to and end but WOW what a lovely time we had. Thank you to all the staff for your kindness & professionalism you made our holiday. Keep up the fantastic work guys you are all doing an amazing job.

Stunning location

Beautiful blue & white striped rooms with terrace looking out to sea. Don't worry that there is no on-sight carparking, there is free street parking avaliable at the end of the street. Walking distance to 'Porto Miggiano' or if you like pools try '19 beach club'... same area. To access the beach walk to the edge of the carpark for 19 beach club and take the stairs down the cliff- walk to the left- much easier than the 100 steps to the right!! 10min walk to the centre from room for meals and shops. Travel in August for night festivals ? Try book in your stay when there is live Pizzica in the city centre ?

4*? Not in a million years!

Reviewed By Paul C

If ever a hotel was inappropriately named then this is it. And it’s a complete mystery as to how it has been ‘rated’ 4 star. Or maybe not. If the star rating is based on facilities then it might be understandable.....except the facilities here are not as translated on their website. ‘Our’ beaches are certainly not their beaches - they require entrance fee payable. Same with the pool - the implication that this hotel has its own on their and various Puglia websites - particularly hotels-Apulia dot com - is completely erroneous. There’s a thermal pool down below the hotel for which one can pay an entry fee. So their 4* rating relates to what exactly? We couldn’t work it out. As we’re on a walking tour of Salento, we’d been boooked into all 7 of our hotels on the basis of facilities offered.... and our tour operator was clear with us about this hotel’s ‘own beaches’ and pool. We raised this with the receptionist, who had apparently translated the website into English herself; she was more interested in arguing with us than accepting the misrepresentation demonstrated in their website. She did suggest that they have a ‘partnership’ with the beach people and the thermal pool operator...though this has been terminated due to Covid. (When she showed us the website then it did state that there is a (very small) discount to use the sulphurous pool, which she defended despite its irrelevance as they had ‘built the website last year’. Given Covid restrictions have been around since March 2020 and it’s now September 2020 then it seems inexcusable that this claim around discount has not been removed in the intervening period - a good website has a decent content management system which ought to allow for instant amendments.) Reading the above you might be tempted to believe we’re just hard to please and serial complainers. Nothing could be further from the truth. As justification, we’ve now been on 5 walking tours organised by New Experience Travel, so have stayed in almost 35 hotels in that time just in those trips (always choosing the upgrade to luxury hotels), and this is the first one we’ve felt so underwhelmed by, and moved to review negatively - both the obvious disingenuity of their claims regarding facilities but also the attitude of the reception staff when this was pointed out led to genuine disappointment. As for the rest of the hotel, ‘faded opulence’ would best describe it. Our room (401 - don’t accept it) was in an echoey corridor by the lift, disturbed by all & sundry conversing loudly as they stood waiting for said lift to arrive. It had no air conditioning (despite claims that rooms have aircon), broken fittings, a bathroom light that didn’t work, dirt and leftovers from a July 17th guest on top of the mirror, a tiny shower with ill-fitting screen (we flooded the bathroom twice in our one-night stay) and the world’s noisiest mini-fridge, masquerading as a mini-bar though devoid of any refreshments (we unplugged it in order to attain some peace & quiet). We’d been booked half-board but eschewed dinner when we saw the featureless and characterless massive dining room, so can’t comment on quality of the food. We are at the pizzeria on the terrace opposite....which was excellent. Breakfast was ok but the occasion, like the hotel, lacked any atmosphere. Given the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo’s prime location, it ought to be a guaranteed high class friendly hotel, rather than choosing to mislead through its website. We won’t be back, and obviously will pass the feedback to our tour operator - we’re apparently the first guests on this new (for them) walking tour, so suggest there may be an alternative hotel chosen in Santa Cesarea Terme for those who might follow us.

Li Catauri: the Salento experience

Reviewed By JessicaVi

Back from a fabolous week in Salento with my boyfriend spent at Li Catauri B&B...I just could not have asked for more! The B&B is in a central position to visit all Salento, you can reach easily both the Adriatic and Ionic coast! It is composed by a series of dependances immersed in olive and figg trees, with vegetable gardens where home grown vegetables as well as fresh fruit are at your complete disposal to prepare a quick sandwich for the beach or enjoy a dinner in the patio maybe with some fresh fish! A common kitchen is available for the guests as well as an outdoor grill so, if you like you can arrange to have your meals in the B&B. Personally we found lovely guests with whom we organized a nice dinner with fresh fish and vegetables from the garden...all cooked for us by the real star of the B&B, the person that makes you feel like at home, Mr. Salvatore! Salvatore really does everything to make you feel at home, he is so welcoming and caring, you can really see that he cares for his guests. Starting from the generous breakfast that not only includes biscuits, cereals, melba toasts, bread, butter, marmelade, hazelnut spead (Nutella),milk, tea, juice, coffee, fresh fruit but also a salentine specialty (pasticciotto o croissant generally, sometimes a cake) that Salvatore personally goes to get fresh every morning at the local bakery! Also if any advice is needed in visiting Salento, Salvatore is a living Wikipedia and will give you the right information to make the best of your stay! What more to say, if you want to experience the sea, food, people of Salento and feel like at home then B&B Li Catauri is the place to be! Strongly reccomended! And really want to thank Mr. Salvatore for making this vacation special!
