We needed a rest from the sights and Rita provides the perfect place. Very close to Villa Romana del Casale, a highlight for any visit to Sicily. Adjacent to Piazza Armerina, a charming town with excellent options for dinner (Rita knows the best). Her place is an older villa, downstairs a formal living room and library; behind it a more recent, but rustic "family room" with dining table for 16, with fireplace. Next to this is, of course, the kitchen where Rita outdoes herself, serving homemade bread, local honeys and jams, skillets of sautéed spinach to complement the omlettes. <sigh>. Rooms are upstairs and of generous size and complete with all amenities. Gardens and pool surround that would certainly be enjoyable in warmer weather. Best of all, was Rita's warmth and hospitality, willing to do whatever (in our case, laundry) to make your vacation perfect. Come visit her, and her four-legged pal, Arturo. You may decide it was the best part of your visit to wonderful Sicily.

We were greeted very warmly by our host, Luciano - welcoming us even as we were getting out of our car! The view of the Cathedral and town across the way is great - and hanging out on the balcony and in other parts of the property are good ways to relax. Breakfast is an abundant assortment of everything you could possibly want, and access to drinks and snacks during the day much appreciated! Luciano takes pride in making his visitors feel at home, and he treats his visitors as family. And the value for the price is not to be beat!

What a wonderful experience

This was our first stay at an agriturismo and it was a very positive experience. A restaurant with rooms surrounded by a farm and amazing countryside. We ought to go back in the summer to enjoy the pool! On arrival we were welcomed with a glass of prosecco whilst we checked in and issues (bedding and hot water) were promptly attended to. The rooms were large and opulent furnished. Dinner was amazing and half board superb value. Pea soup followed by different antipasti (baked onions, prosciutto, panelle, fennel, baked cheese, artichoke flan), pasta with creamy pesto, roast pork and beef followed by a ricotta dessert. Eaten in a rustic dining room with open fire. Local red wine was included. Breakfast was served buffet with cakes, various breads and home made jam but eggs etc available if required. We have some olive oil to remind us of our lovely time here. We visited the area because of the jewel that is Villa Romana del Casale and both are worth a return visit.

Do not miss dinner!

Lovely place with a patio and grounds where you can listen to songbirds, roosters, and several local dogs. Our room was cozy and clean, and the owner was solicitous for our comfort. The heat in the room worked very well (in March). The true and unique distinction of this place, though, is the dinner (optional at 28 euro) and breakfast (included with room). We had other wonderful meals in Sicily, but it was thrilling to get to know some actual home cooking. Dinner was served in the hotel's small dining room, and the chef came out following the meal to accept our congratulations. The charge for dinner also included, on request, a glass of wine earlier in the evening which arrived with bar snacks as a nice surprise. They can't possibly serve the same dishes every night in case guests stay for a while, but our meal in March 2022 included: (1) A half liter or so of Nero d'Avola for two people, plus a modest pour of Frappato with the main course (2) Bruschetta of artichoke and of tomato (3) Semi-hard cheeses and spicy pepperoni, with white bread (4) Hot starters: arancini of peas and mozzarella; panella, a Palermo dish which may have been battered cheese; thin spinach frittata; and slices of eggplant, sauteed then baked with fresh mozzarella and chopped tomato (5) Primo piatto, a totally remarkable pasta dish that it would be impossible to put on a restaurant menu. This was cauliflower sauce served with penne, very dense and lightly flavored with salt and oil with a few raisins and pine nuts, dusted with bread crumbs to complete the effect of totally white food. Our server said its name was "brocco," although the recipe for this dish that I found online was called more descriptively "Pasta con il cavolfiore alla Siciliana." There was very little salt in this dish; the Villa Trigonia's chef used either less salt or more salt than we were used to, which made us want to conduct further research. (6) the secondo piatto, very lean pork tenderloin sliced and prepared in an intense sauce of caramelized onion with a little vinegar. The onion is a backbone of Sicilian cooking for aroma, as they don't use many fresh herbs. The pork was accompanied by (a) a stunning salad of cross-sectioned peeled blood orange heavily flavored with green onion; (b) salad of tomato and slivered romaine in a sherry vinegar dressing, nicely salty; and (c) oily roasted potatoes seasoned not with rosemary as in other parts of Italy but with salt. (7) As dessert, panna cotta with your choice of caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, berry reduction, or a fourth sauce which I've forgotten. Berry reduction was incredibly intense with very little sugar, wonderful. (8) Choice of a long list of liqueurs that included amaro, crema di almandorla (almond cream), and two colors of grappa, but the host offered at least eight. Amazing installment in our ambition to learn more about Sicilian food! The almost totally homemade breakfast spread was astonishing. They announced that they prepare their own jams and biscotti in the style of the region. Uncountable profusion of filled croissants, flavored cakes, cookies, yeast breads, and jams. You could also get eggs, bacon, and cheese. We had a powerful tart of caramelized orange peel with orange pulp--world-class dish that I wish I could get again; lightly flavored yellow lemon cake; a dark cake mildly flavored with coffee; a very crisp chocolate cookie, yet again mild; and a pleasing small coconut cookie. A bit like with the salt in the previous night's dinner, the baker's approach to sugar seemed like basically all or nothing. The results were all fascinating and tasted great! If you really enjoy learning about the regional cooking of Italy, do not miss this place! There are not many chances to get such an unfiltered look.

The location is perfect…in a quiet area not remote in the countryside but safe enough close to other buildings, close to amenities and to the Piazza Armerina old village with a lot of historic site and places ti visit. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, well-lit and aired with enough space for a baby to crawl around and heated so it’s very cosy even in winter. Breakfast was great and various with fresh local produce too! Our baby boy loved the fresh omlette daily. The surroundings of the place is paradise, there’s a pool especially for summer but greenery is all around with farm animals that you can enjoy too - goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, dogs and chickens. There’s a BBQ area too and parties can be organised with custom games for kids or adults. There are Greensand stone naturally sculpted rocks decorating the outdoor areas all around that were excavated there which qas fascinating. The interior decor is fantastic, especially when the proprietor narrated stories about specific pieces and the reasoning behind these decorative art, exquisite job! It was a fabulous holiday with our 11-month old son and we were very well taken care of by the property owner who treated us like family, that’s why you will feel at home as soon as you arrive! We highly recommend it to couples, families and friends as you will surely spend great quality time and if you roam around with your car, you’ll have it there with you inside the property. We loved it and we cannot wait to return back to La Quercia soon enough!
