Excellent out of season stay at Karma di Colleoli

Reviewed By Ritz1613

Spent a week here at the beginning of April which was out of season so the pool and restaurant were closed however, Dennis and Dean ensured that we had everything we needed so that we had a comfortable stay (and breakfast). Dennis was very knowledgeable and gave us some very helpful advice on where to visit and eat. He tailored these to suit our needs and likes. The room was spacious, had everything we needed plus a jacuzzi bath tub. It had high ceilings and was tastefully decorated. We even had a library (with working record player) that we could use to socialise in. Dennis and Dean organised a pleasant cheese and wine evening so we were able to meet the other guests and a merry time was had by all. The extensive grounds were beautifully maintained and the views of the Tuscan hills were enchanting. The buildings were varied as the rooms probably are too. The town is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Thank you Dennis for organising the wine tasting and the lovely meal recommendations. We will be returning.

Charming and magical

Reviewed By Patch B

We were recommended this place by a respected interior designer who really knows his stuff, while travelling on our honeymoon. So we kind of knew it would be cool. We slept beneath magical painted owls on the ceiling, and loved bumbling around the hilltop village. Breakfast was served beneath a hundred year old wisteria. At one point I thought I'd gone back in time, and put on a pair of tights. My wife found me and totally understood my vibe. It was a big moment in our new marriage.

Holiday

Reviewed By RobertGKay

We spent 2 wonderful weeks here on holiday in August. The apartment was comfortable and perfectly equipped for our family. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the pool was clean and having allocated sun beds and deck chairs poolside was perfect. All of which was topped off with stunning views across the magnificent Tuscan hills. Andrea was a super host who was always willing to help with recommendations of places to visit and restaurants to eat at - he would even book a table for us (which was incredibly helpful in light of my very limited Italian and the Covid pandemic). I would highly recommend staying here - centrally located between the beautiful towns and cities.

No sense of hospitality

Reviewed By globtravl

Should have trusted negative ratings before! After a stressed welcome late evening but not in the middle of the night ("You know: I sleep!") the furious host cancelled the booking because we arrived an hour later than estimated and communicated. No sense of hospitality at all. We had to find accommodation in the middle of nowhere with two little children. There are way more friendlier people in Tuscany than this. Safe your money for a better experience.

Villa Lena

Villa Lena is a new kind of retreat where guests can find cutting edge contemporary culture in the midst of wild nature, where food is locally grown and produced, where design is vintage and original, where children and adults can find adventures in the wilderness, as well as enjoy the beauty and serenity of the lush Tuscan hills. Set on an estate sprawling over 500 hectares of stunning woodland, olive groves and vineyards, filled with extraordinary fauna and wildlife, it holds a number of buildings, which are used for the hotel and artist residency. The heart of the property is the Villa, built at the end of the 18th century by a local family, the Ferrini Del Frate. The hotel houses an artist residency where multidisciplinary creative talent can work for a period of two months, collaborate with other residents, mingle with hotel guests and take part in Villa Lena's life. The rooms and the common areas at Villa Lena are designed by Paris based Clarisse Demory with an emphasis on easy chic. Spaces are filled with vintage pieces and recycled furniture. As a result, each room has its own unique look with art pieces produced in the artist 's village by the past residents. Guests are invited to rent apartments or houses which are spread over the estate. Fattoria, an ancient stable was remodeled into apartments with high ceilings, terraces and tall fireplaces. San Michele is right by the central pool and proposes single rooms for a more budget stay. Renacchi is set within 10 minute walking distance from the heart of the property and is ideal for a family holiday. Stento and Stentino are two separate houses with a shared pool and good 15 minutes walk from the center. Centrally located, the restaurant and the main pool have great views over the rugged Tuscan hills and rolling fields during the daytime, and music, dancing and parties during hot summer evenings. Villa Lena has a special approach to food, something to enjoy and take at heart. Vegetables, fruits and herbs are grown on site as much as possible and outsourced from the best local organic producers. Villa Lena runs a small shop in the reception presenting unique collaborations. Through working with the artists in residence and best craftsmen in the area, Villa Lena establishes a line of commissioned objects. You can also purchase the estate's homemade olive oil and wine.

We love Tuscany!

We will be returning to this great place soon! The family management is smart and welcoming, the place is enchanting and you are immersed into a real glimpse of Tuscany. For families with children it is the ideal place because there are also some courtyard animals, and it is wonderful to see them well kept in their spaces. Spacious pool where you can relax and swim, poolside in the shade of olive trees (top!) And a spectacular view of the Tuscan hills. The Ca' Solare is a few km from centers of historical and cultural interest such as Volterra, Pisa, San Gimignano and Siena. Our accommodation was independent from the structure, only a few meters away, we always had advice on where to go shopping, places to visit, local products to buy, etc etc. A serene and informal atmosphere. The right place to fully enjoy the spirit of the holiday. Sasha, Alberta e Federico

Roberto and Clara are great hosts. Welcoming and full of fascinating information about the local area and Tuscany in general. They have a beautiful set of apartments which are commodious, pretty, superb views, clean and have good WiFi and all the conveniences. The pool which is a good size is kept scrupulously clean each day. Alica is quiet and unspoilt and near to so much of interest in Valdera. Vineyards and olive groves all around. The enchanting hooting Tawney Owls let you know they are busy in the surrounding woods at night! We will definitely be back as soon as we possibly can!
