Disappointing, not to usual Premier Inn standards

Reviewed By SzsteveC

Location is good although I should imagine it could be a nightmare if you tried to arrive/depart on race day as it is right next to the race course and shared an entrance/exit. A little too far out of town but still has a super market(s) very close for those bits and pieces. Good comms before I arrived, a courtesy call advising me that the attached restaurants' grill had failed and so steaks wouldn't be available. Decent sized car park although I think could be small if the hotel was full. Check-in fast and smooth, friendly staff and very helpful Sadly I can only grade my stay here as 3 out of 5 (as opposed to the usual 4 or 5 mark I give for Premier Inn) for the following reasons. Room seemed smaller than other Premier Inn rooms I have had previously, of which I have had quite a few. At £204 for two nights, without breakfast, I thought was over priced (saving grace is that it was close to near where I needed to go). There was a strange smell in the room which I believe came from the air conditioning (after 10 minutes or so you got used to it and stopped noticing it, until you went out). The air conditioning in the room would only go down to 19 Deg on the controller and was way too hot in the room, windows were fixed and could not be opened, sleep was poor due to this. Bed seemed over soft to what it normally is from what I remember of previous stays. They couldn't even supply bedding to completely cover the contents, ie the pillow case was way too small and would only fit about 2/3rds of a pillow inside. Bathroom was good with a shower over bath, and there was even a plug to be able to enjoy a hot bath. CHeck out was quick and easy, although I got the feeling they were just going through the motions of what they had to do (questions asked etc) without really caring, and other than to briefly ask the questions didn't even stop the conversation they were having (two people behind the desk) talking about another member of staff they weren't happy with. I'm actually a big lover of Premier Inn, but I would seriously look at alternatives if coming to this area again.

Lovely little gem

Reviewed By beth_Devon1

I travel a lot and having lived in the area for some years, knew the pub/restaurant but didn’t realise they offered accommodation. Not entirely sure what to expect, when I arrived (late), I was taken to a lovely room. The space was spotless with soft bed linen and towels. Nice toiletries and plenty of tea/coffee etc. Plenty of power points and also next to the bed which most hotels don’t do, much to my annoyance. TV offered several channels (unlike my Mecure hotel tonight), lovely and warm and a quiet location. The only downside was my WiFi wouldn’t connect as it wasn’t ‘secure’. I asked for just toast and coffee in the morning and the lovely lady (thanks for the chat!), went over and above, offering me a take out which was perfect and very convenient for me. I loved my little bottle of milk on the doorstep in the morning ?. Thank you. See you again!

The Barn Owl

The Barn Owl is a charming 300 year old farmhouse. This Inn offers a fantastic atmosphere to enjoy a meal and drink. It is located on the outskirts of the English Riviera, midway between Torquay and Newton Abbot, making it ideally situated for you to enjoy the many attractions the area has to offer. Our redevelopment saw the Inn become being restored to it's former glory showing off it's charm. The Barn Owl serves a great selection of traditional English Fayre which on sunny days and warm nights can also be enjoyed alfresco-style in the garden. The ancient market town of Newton Abbot is just a couple of miles away, as is the English Riviera and the three resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. If you are keen on horse racing, Newton Abbot has its own racecourse and it is only a short but pretty car ride to the Dartmoor National Park which you can incorporate en route with a visit to Stover Park. For those who enjoy shopping, the famous Trago Mills shopping centre is just a few miles away. Next time you are passing, why not pop in for a quality pint or delicious meal. We hope to see you soon.

Fantastic Dog friendly hotel and pub!

Visiting friends so needed a dog friendly hotel in the area. The staff were very helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived and the Sunday lunch was delicious! The room was lovely, newly decorated and spotlessly clean with everything we needed. Would recommend the breakfast too. Thank you to all the staff at the Barn Owl Inn for a lovely stay…we wouldn’t hesitate in booking this again in the future.

Breakfast was excellent as was all the food, Very quick service when waiting for food and drinks to arrive. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Really quiet at night for sleep quality once the bar closes. I chose this place as it seemed to be somewhere to chill out and relax and it did that really well.

Excellent Stay, Charming Couple, Beautiful Home and Garden

Reviewed By CobyBurns

Our stay was EXCELLENT! What a beautiful, clean Georgian house and garden, renovated by the absolutely charming couple Alison and Brian. Roomy bedroom with all the amenities and very happy with the pristine bathroom facilities (for those of you wanting extra cleanliness). We loved seeing all of Brian's impressive artwork throughout their home. Alison was so accommodating and between the two of them, cooked us the best English breakfast we've ever had, and served in their giant conservatory overlooking their huge garden area which is so relaxing and filled with beautiful trees, flowers and peaceful meditation areas. We only stopped over for two nights on our way to a family visit so hope we can come stay longer during the Chelsea Garden Show one year. Look for the Ainsworths' in the local guided Garden Tours. I heard they might be on the list, well worth a visit!

Beautiful place with a very warm welcome

Reviewed By Midthirtymummy

We stayed here for 2 nights making use of the two rooms. It's a stunning location within a beautiful part of the country. We were well looked after by our hosts who were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. They were patient with our 4 year old who was a little excitable being in such a unique place. Breakfast options were hearty, healthy and delicious. The accommodation could not be faulted with everything you could need and more (chocolates and chocolate biscuits). It was very comfy but also well set up for relaxing on an evening. We only wish the weather would have been a little kinder so we could have enjoyed the patio.

Manor Farm Campsite / B&B

Manor farm is a working farm nestled in a quiet and unspoilt valley just to the north of the seaside town of Torquay. Manor Farm boasts 4 double bedrooms, two of them en-suite. The farmhouse is old and crooked and full of character, with low ceilings, a cosy TV room with WiFI available, however mobile reception can be poor in Daccombe. We also have a campsite which is open from April-September.

Lovely weekend getaway

Reviewed By 634izzyb

Just got back from a long weekend camping at the treacle valley campiste with a group of friends. The camp site is in a beautiful locatation surrounded by views of Devon's countryside - we enjoyed watching the sunset and stargazing every evening! Whilst it seems such a secluded spot, the campsite is just minutes away from shops and takeaways, and very near the coast where we spent our first day... Yet you wouldn't know how close you are to amenities due to the quiet and peaceful surroundings. The campsite is well set up for dealing with COVID, with the toilet and shower facilities being managed and cleaned regularly - we felt extremely safe. For a few nights this was perfect! Highly recommend
