Great Service and Location
Reviewed By jonascnThis was my first visit to Hohhot. I chose Holiday Inn Hohhot as I was looking for a city area hotel easily accessible to tourist sites. I had a very good experience. Here is why: 1. The hotel location is excellent. It is near to tourist sites like the Dazhao Temple, Inner Mongolia Museum and Five Pagoda Temple (15 mins to 20 mins taxi away). There are also sites to visit within walkable distance. There is a Qincheng Park opposite the hotel, and 10 mins walk to a mall with H&M and Sephora. 2. The hotel is responsive to emails. I emailed them months earlier for a hotel tour service to visit the grassland. The staff was quick to reply and they confirmed the arrangements the moment I checked into the hotel. 3. Service is excellent. The front desk is highly approachable and friendly. It is comparable to the service you get in a. 5 star hotel. Special commendation also goes to the staff located next to lift (wearing a suit and standing at the counter next to the lift). He greeted me every time I walk past and that brightens my day. He also went an extra mile and helped me load the luggage to the taxi without me prompting on the last day when I checked out). This is another example of a 5 star service. 4. The room is well equipped and reliable. The rooms looks a bit aged but I don't mind as everything works. The hot shower water heats up quickly after switching on. The bath gels from UK also feels upscale like 4 star hotels. There are also international channels like Discovery and CNN. Chambermaids were also friendly, always greeting me when I walked past them. The only con in the room is the WiFi speed that can be faster. Laundry service is also cheaper than many international hotels. 5. The gym is a pleasant surprise. It is small but have every equipment you need, with free weights and machine. It is well equipped. There is also free mineral water. 6. Breakfast buffet and Dinner a la carte is affordable and a few pleasant surprises. For breakfast I love the banana roll, milk roll, the fruit balls and the rich coffee. There is also a good selection of Mongolia food to try which I like them too. The cod fish for dinner is also my favourite (big serving at affordable price). The western food could be improved in terms of freshness but western food is not a strength in local hotels too. The breakfast area feels a but tired and some of the seats sink in too deep after sitting on them. But the good quality and affordability of the food more than make up for the seats. Overall, I will strongly recommend the hotel for its good service and location. Loved to be back when travelling normalcy resumes.

Wonderful Stay in Inner Mongolia
Reviewed By Min-kyoung COur family stayed in the Club room on Aug 1st. Lobby area decoration is unique and authentic. There is photo spot with traditional Mongolian clothes and decorated house Ger in the lobby area. The hotel let us check-in ealier than the chck-in time without any frustration. Also all the hotel associates were friendly and well-informed. Housekeeping set the fruit and children amenities during turn-down. The lounge atmosphere and food were nice enough (both evening cocktail food and breakfast were tidy and sufficient). There was some Mongolian traditional food providing and it was nice to try. Lounge associates were helpful and freindly. They welcomed us everytime we visited there. Swimming pool has kids pool also and inside of the changing area, there is well-maintained Jacuzzi. Near the hotel, there are shopping mall and entertainment area within walking distance. There is also children's museum right next to the hotel and it was free admission. Inside, there were various sections such as job-experience, climbing, traditonal Inner-Mongolia cultures, and so on. Behind the hotel, there is also big park with lotus pond. It was nice to walk around. The hotel is very convenient for travelling with small kids. Definately recommand this hotel if you ever visit hohhot.

Most disappointing hotel stay ever

My husband and I booked this hotel for two nights to get away for Chinese New Year. We've stayed in several Wanda hotels in China before and always choose them over others, yet this was the most disappointing hotel experience I've ever had. In fact, we didn't even stay the night - we decided to cut our losses and get the train back to Beijing, 2.5 hours away and 1,000+ yuan lighter. First of all, the check-in staff completely ignored me at the check-in desk and addressed my (Chinese) husband instead as they presumably don’t speak English, even though I was one standing there with the bags and passports ready to check us in and he was loitering on the sidelines - nice bit of casual racism to kick off the visit; never mind the fact that I actually speak Chinese. Second, we were told that as it was the CNY holiday, the executive lounge was closed, as were the pool and fitness facilities, neither of which were we informed of when booking. We paid an extra 500 yuan for the exec room literally to use the lounge (I work remotely and planned to work from there). The only difference between the most basic room and the exec room asides from the price is the lounge access. We asked to be charged for a standard room and they refused. We were told we could use the lobby bar for happy hour inclusive drinks in lieu of the lounge, yet when we went there at the alotted time, the barworker had absolutely no idea about the arrangement, leading to confused phone calls to the manager to verify we weren't trying to swindle free drinks. Even so, after clarification, we were told the only drinks on offer for "free" were soft drinks or beer - unlike every other exec lounge happy hour I've experienced. To clarify, I may come off as a diva in this review, but I'm really not. My husband and I just met a "we can't do anything to help you" response one wouldn’t expect at the apparent best hotel in town, which would lead anyone to frustration. We went to Hohhot to celebrate CNY and experience the local hospitality, but left just hours later feeling disappointed and annoyed.

Nice Hotel
Reviewed By KW MNice Hotel, a little dated and a bit wore out/dated. Place was certainly clean, but after so many years, things should be renovated and updated. Room carpets for example. Hotel is about a 10-minute walk to the closest mall, < 10-minutes to the closest metro stop. Not really anything else in the area, you’ll need to taxi or metro everywhere you want to go, but most places will necessitate more than a walk in Hohhot anyway. Closest Western food is a McDonalds at this mall, (Victory Mall). The breakfast at the Hotel is 97% a Chinese breakfast. You will find eggs, croissants, toast and if you’re lucky and come early, a bit of bacon, everything else is Chinese, but as most guests are Chinese, it’s to be expected. No issue recommending the place or returning if I’m back in the area.

Reviewed By DeeLaylaAlthough we spent only two days here, I'm still impressed by the concept and the content of this hotel! I'm usually not going to this hotel level, yet the price of this one is really a bargain comparing to what it offers and how it looks. It would be difficult to describe this immersive place, yet if you have in mind some elements of Mongolian heritage and tradition, multiply it with local meaning and knowledge, and think how that could be present through each single element of a contemporary hotel. Rooms are fantastic, but that's the most ordinary part. Everything else is so special and unique, and coloured by layers of centuries, ethnicities, diversity. Even some members of the staff are wearing beautiful traditional clothes while a huge statue of Genghis Khan is dominating entrance hall. Their English might get better, yet this region is a little bit further from major Chinese routes and regions, and it would certainly improved in years to come. Inside hotel you may find many shops and stores for souvenirs, food, clothes, accessories... Plenty extremely richly decorated rooms and halls and conference venues - I saw at least dozen of them. There is also a pool and (let's say) spa facility but they're the only minus here - I think that's not really popular among Chinese. The food is excellent and diverse, service perfect and you really can't imagine anything else... :)

Reviewed By yfylouAfter a full day touring all around Inner Mongolia, came back to hotel so tired and totally exhausted. Luckily I have this cool room to relax after a hot shower. Got up early in the morning for a dip in the swimming pool and later came down to enjoy the hotel morning hearty breakfast. This is the best breakfast with so many choices.

No Pool
Reviewed By Philip MOn our return from grassland camping we decided to check out a couple hotels instead of just going back to the place we stayed before the excursion. This hotel looked appealing to us, two adults and two kids, because at this time their family suite was less than a twin room at the other hotels in which we were interested. However, we decided not to stay here because there was no swimming pool despite the hotel description saying there was. There might be a swimming in a place down the street but we were told that it was independent of the hotel. Also, the family suite was pretty small.
