Villa Sparina Resort

The superior 4 star hotel is developed from the restoration of its original structure of the old farm house dating back to the 17th century. It was once used as home for the farmers that worked in the fields of the estate. L’Ostelliere is located on the Monterotondo hill of Gavi in a predominant position and faces a spectacular amphitheatre of vineyards and woods and it reflects the territory for its simplicity, with the utilization of authentic materials. Everything contributes to make a very unique and unforgettable experience: refined environments, a quiet, peaceful and elegant atmosphere.

The ideal incentive location

Reviewed By Nelda68

Settled at the border of Piemonte and Ligura, the resort is ideally located should you wish to have a team building activity in the Piedmont hills or on the Mediterranean coast. I discovered this resort 10 years ago. They had a wonderful event team then and the new person in charge is equally very agreeable to work with. Their several spaces for lunch/dinner ensured we had a new culinary experience each day (from picnic basket lunches to gourmet dinners in their new cellar or in the private lounge on top of the extended restaurant). The new seminar/meeting room was perfect for 15. Room temperature/light/technology equally matched our needs. The place would also be a nice stopover for a roadtrip between northern and southern Italy. Thank you very much to all the staff (events, reception, housekeeping, restaurant) for their positive / can do attitude! Lastly the owners are to be seen especially on Sundays but as they did the 1st time we came they remain very discreet.

Lots Going For It, But...

Reviewed By Alan F

You couldn't ask for a nicer host, a more central location, plenty of character, cleanliness throughout and the great benefit of secure parking in the heart of a medieval town and fair value. A lot of work has gone into maximizing the use of medieval space. The Rainwater Shower, for example, was fine. But every travel establishment and traveler have to decide the price point and features that make sense for them. Sometimes small variances loom large in tastes and tolerances. Our "River View" room was cozy, comfortable and quiet. But the radiators being on a timer we couldn't control was unpleasant. While the breakfast was "generous" it was pretty basic, and disappointing with several local bakeries nearby offering more interesting fare and our appreciation of better coffee. The breakfast room-and our room, were down 14 or so stairs. A bit of a challenge for older folks on a long trip with heavy luggage. I'm sure we could have had help if asked for, and your hotelier doesn't know who you are in advance. This is an excellent "budget" accommodation. But we would pay more for a better breakfast and a change of towels each day. I suspect many clients would agree, but all the 5 star ratings may reassure them that they have already made the right choices.

Locanda La Raia

Locanda La Raia is located on the Gavi hills, within the biodynamic farm La Raia. Once a place where wayfarers could rest and get some food, Locanda La Raia is a green mansion nestled among vineyards, grazing land and woods. Here, the comfortable interiors interact with the beauty of the surrounding nature.

Almost perfect

Reviewed By buxi80

We stayed five days at Locanda La Raia and it is a real gem. Located between soft mountains you have a great view over their vineyards. Rooms (we had a large double) are stylish combining design elements with ancient furniture and hard mattresses. What is particular remarking is that style and functionality go hand in hand (which is not very often the case). The whole building is a bit noisy, but staff has an eye on night’s rest. The pool is rather small but serves its refreshing purpose - as long as you don’t want to swim, and don’t mind the children playing in it. Breakfast is served at the table, at its heart a breakfast tray with crunchy croissants, fresh fruits, bread, delicious jam, home made cookies, honey and cake (coffee, eggs, and everything else was brought on request). We ate every evening at the restaurant and - apart from the marvellous view - the food is superb, tasty, and appealingly presented (although you might have difficulties if you are vegetarian/vegan). The staff is a bit of a mixed crowd: Some are very attentive, asking pro-actively, others tend to oversee you, but the general impression is one of a very well functioning team (e.g. they put up an extra table outside when we felt uncomfortable due to the crowded restaurant). We also made use of SPA treatments (deep-tissue massage) and can recommend it. The hotel also have a well equipped small gym, which required a booking and which we used twice. The only thing to remark is that we would have wished for more consistency regarding the wearing of Covid-masks from staff and other hotel guests.

Mauro ineguagliabile

Reviewed By LaDamianina

Grazie Mauro a presto prestissimo Spero ?

A nice address to rest after big shopping !

Reviewed By Berti34

We head out for a week/end shopping near Milan. Last minute availability at Villa Gavina, 10mn away from our shopping destination, Serravalle Scrivia outlet. We were offered the 2 rooms on 2nd floor of this renovated villa of hundred years. very clean. Our room has a gorgeous view on the hill - very quiet - with a very spacious bathroom. our teens has a room next to us on the same aisle. The lady manager is very sweet - bravissima. She prepared a nice breakfast buffet just for the 4 of us. Decoration of rooms are oldish and heavy but for 70 euros/night incl breakfast. nothing to say. Perfect cleanliness. Car park secured inside the villa. Definitely a 3+* The center where to enjoy a drink or coffee on the terrace is a few mn walk. Take the advice of Villa Gavina to go to the restaurant "i peccati di gola". Typical food served abundantly in an old cosy cellar.

Cosy and friendly

Reviewed By Kris V

Cascina Santa is run by a couple in their forties and their daughter helps out also. It is an old farm but things are kept impeccably clean. We stayed for four nights in July 2014. The rooms are located in an annexe next to the main building where the owners live. On the first floor there is the shared kitchen and dining area; the kitchen is perfectly equipped with everything you need, except for a fridge. The owners are friendly enough to let you put your coolbox cartridges in their own fridge, though it is not as convenient as having a fridge right there. There is one room on this floor with a bathroom across the hallway. On the second floor there are two rooms and a shared bathroom, One room has twin beds, the other one a "matrimonale" double bed and a kind of rollaway. Everything is spic and span and decorated with loads of knick knacks which add an old, homely feeling to the whole place. The only small drawback is the shower which has really little water pressure and it takes some time before the hot water arrives...To end with some positive notes: there is what is advertised as a 'patio', a kind of pavilion tent on the grounds with tables, chairs and cushions in summer; a sweet place to relax, read or just hang out and take in the quiet of the surroundings. Get a bottle of homemade wine for 5 euros and the landlady will treat you with an excellent selection of local stuff (we got salami, ham from Novi Ligure and lard from Toscane, homemade preserved zucchini and paprika). Finally, the breakfasts are really excellent: apart form a very nice selection of cheese and meats, we got warm, freshly baked 'brioches' twice and were treated to a home-made zucchini quiche and one of the best apple-cinnamon cakes I have ever eaten.
