Reviewed By John HThe Skybay Hotel at Gyeongpo is one of the hotels built in the lead up to the 2018 Winter Olympics, so it is still quite new. All of the rooms have amazing views, either of the ocean or of Gyeongpo lake and the mountains to the west. The view and location of the hotel are amazing, the beach is a thirty second walk from the hotel back entrance. This last visit was with my wife and infant daughter and the hotel offers several amenities: a crib, a sterilizer, and the like, and that was nice. The beds are also comfortable and the bathroom was clean, and also had decent water pressure as well as a good range in water temperature. The staff at the hotel were nice and helpful as you could expect. The hallmark of this hotel is the roof infinity pool on the 20th floor, my wife and I had been once before in the summer time and it is nice (if a bit crowded) and to my surprise the pool was open on January 1st, and it is in face heated so that is a nice touch. However, access to the pool is not free to hotel guests, or a reduced rate, 30,000 won per person can add up in a hurry and in all honesty it is not that big of a pool. There isn’t much else to do except lounge around and splash a bit. Also (here come the negatives) the walls of the rooms are not very soundproof, we could hear other guests from either side of us, as well from the hallway and I know they heard our baby when she was crying. The elevators are a complete joke as well, they work but with only three elevators for each tower it is always a wait for a elevator. And if it is during a busier time of day (like 11 AM ) then the elevator will be full, and you have to wait more. The average wait time for an elevator was a little less than five minutes by my estimate. Since I was waiting for so long I was able to spend some time and look and think at the glassed off room next to the elevators, and I realized that there were going to be an additional four (or more) elevators for the tower. That would have helped immensely ease our experience, I do not know the reason why they didn’t finish installing the remaining elevators (the decision was made after construction was already a fair ways along, or else they could done anything else) but the elevators alone are a reason for one star being taken off from this review.

Good option in the city
Reviewed By thelonious22Gangneung Tourist Hotel was a good option for a night near the train station as we arrived late. While it’s in the town center, it is a bit far from the nightlife area so nothing was open late in the area other than a handful of fast food restaurants. The room was spacious and clean and offered a good view of the city. A separate key for the elevator is required which was about the only annoyance. If you don’t need to be near the beach area, it’s a decent option.

How do I know? have stayed in previous years for summer beach holiday and the name and staff are different. I have read the negative reviews and in my humble opinion these are undeserved. It is a great little hotel that "does what is says on the box" It is well priced compared to other hotels along the beach at peak season. Room clean and well appointed for price range, comfortable bed. Very close to beach and sea front. This is well recommended for nice friendly competitively priced beach hotel in the month of August.

Reviewed By thelonious22To sum up our horrible stay: Our feet immediately turned black from all the dust the minute we entered the room. We turned the AC on to cool the room that was at 28.5 degrees. We were told they don't turn the AC on because the weather is cold (30 degree high that day). They tell us to open the window, but they have signs saying "do not open the window as flies, mosquitos, and gnats will enter the room." We demand some compensation and the manager accuse of extortion. The hotel benefits from having just one competition along the Gyeongpo beach area. Rooms are average motel quality, and zero customer service with no plans to improve anything. Expect long waits for check-in, then the elevator...maybe you'll be lucky to get the room literally a kilometer away from the elevator...oh, $35 a person if you want to use their pool

Reviewed By Jessica WIf you want to be on the beach during your stay, this is a great place: great views and you cannot get any closer. It is inches from the beach and around some restaurants--endless coffee shops and GS25, but restaurants are limited. There is reserved parking behind the building, but I can see this being an issue in high season because sometimes you'll need to leave your keys with the front desk so they valet your car as guests come and go. The rooms are nice and pretty clean with nice amenities. In the future I would look around to other beachfront options as the beach is nice all the way up the coast.

Reviewed By gina_a_r_htcLocation - Not far from the train station where the KTX is accessible. Right in front of the beach and near all sorts of restaurants and shops. Checking-in - Was a breeze. Although their English was not fluent but I could understand. Understanding some Korean language made it easier for me to understand that they were giving me the option to choose the rooms. They showed me both rooms and let me decide. Excellent service. Rooms - with view of the beach, beautiful morning and night view. Room was spacious. Love that the bathroom is separated by another "main" door, which is another door to the room (see photo). Shower area was a little small though, with no separator, shower curtains would be nice. Nice lounge area in the room too, with coffee table and 2 single seater sofas. That is in addition to the study table and the coffee maker table! Really spacious room that is like a mini suite. Bed - the bed was big and comfortable with sufficient pillows. I noticed most hotels nowadays don't provide enough pillows. Facilities - coffee maker, toiletries, towels were provided. Personal rating - 4 out of 5. If only breakfast is an option made available, I would probably rate it 4.5. The missing 0.5 is minor whereby the corridor is a tad too small in my opinion.

Reviewed By Bob RWe were fortunate to gain lodgings at the Winners after our original booking nearby was cancelled two days before we were due to arrive. There was always an English speaking member of staff on duty, all of whom went the extra mile to ensure that our arrangements were satisfactory, whether it was specific instructions to cab drivers, or attending and advising regarding any matter at all, however small. All in all, we had 9 family members, comprising 5 rooms, for varying lengths of stay during the Winter Olympics, and all were of the same opinion as we. The hotel is about 15 - 20 minutes by cab from Gangneung KTX station, right in the heart of Jumunjin fishing port, a rollicking, jumping, full on working town. Colourful shopping alleys, seafood markets, very affordable restaurants and bakeries should afford you enough, or as little of the local culture as you desire. Our room on the Harbour side, 7th floor at Winners Motel gave us excellent views of the lower end of the harbour, the breakwall, the lighthouse just to the north, and views of Jumunjin Beach and more, kilometres to the south. PROS: I found the Staff (all of them) to be as courteous and polite as you could wish, the neighbourhood and port was incredibly interesting to explore, the lodgings were as clean and comfortable as they could be. With our forced change of accommodation due to the other hotel not being completed, we saved about AUD 85 per day. BONUS!! CONS: Our room was small, which meant that we had to be a bit more organised in our habits. Not really a problem, character building. Very glad that fate brought us and the Winners together. Highly recommended.

The best stay in Gangneung
Reviewed By ChaxouLI stayed at the East9 hotel for 3 days and 2 nights. Everything was perfect from start to finish. the staff very polite, welcoming and smiling. I don't know if he really speaks English because I did everything in Korean since I speak a little in Korean. the hotel has two parking spaces, one inside the basement and the other outside in front of the hotel, if the two parking lots are full it is very easy to park around. My room (standard) was located on the 8th floor (so on the 6th real floor). view a little on the surroundings, not the best view but not the most disturbing either. My room was really large with an entrance to remove shoes (Korean style), a large bed, a large TV, a large bathroom ... in short everything was large in this room. Everything is in very good condition, the bed is very comfortable with a feather duvet and the pillows. bathroom very clean also. the only negative was that it was quite warm in the room despite turning off the heat and opening the window. the morning breakfast included in the room rate is pretty good, it is not a huge buffet but enough to have a good breakfast before starting the day. to finish I highly recommend this hotel, it is in a district surrounded by restaurant, bar and club with also several shops and convenience store.
