Very good hotel in the middle of Esher. It has a great bar and pub garden. We didn’t try the food on this occasion. Rooms are well equipped with well stocked mini bar, tv, aircon etc. The beds are really comfortable. My only gripe is as it’s so close to main roads it is quite noisy, although they have tried to mitigate with an extra layer over the windows. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We will definitely return some day.

Terrible, very disappointed is an understatement

We (two couples) had asked the owner of the B&B if we could check in early as we had to be somewhere at 9am. This was agreed as the rooms were empty the night before (not surprising as we know now). When we arrived at the guest house at 8.30am we were met with a closed sign on the front door and no answer to our knocks. We walked to the side door and a guy eventually answered the door. He explained he was the lodger who said the owner was not up yet. Not the best way to be greeted as arriving guests. We could see how unappealing the guest house was before we even set foot in it. The owner did then come down and gave us our keys to the two rooms. The stairs carpet was completely threadbare in lots of places making the steps a trip hazard. If we hadn’t already paid £102.00 per night per room we would have walked out there and then. We were shocked at the state of the B&B and that we had been charged such a high price considering the state of repair of the house. If it hadn’t of been for the racing at Epsom we would have tried to find somewhere else, but it was very doubtful we would have found anywhere at such short notice on an Epsom racing weekend. We would not have got our money refunded though. We had booked two rooms and both were very tatty with broken windows that looked out onto an overgrown garden. The curtains were very thin and kept no light out. The wall paper was falling off the walls and they badly needed painting. The furniture was very old and needed replacing. The only electric socket was hanging off the wall in my allocated room which is a fire hazard. The en-suite shower rooms were very old fashioned with very small shower cubicles and the flooring was old and stained. Our friends shower did not work properly and had little power so it dribbled out. The only saving grace was the bed linen looked white and clean. Although on further inspection, the next morning, under the valance sheet the bed was very old and stained. I did not dare to have breakfast as I really could not face eating from such a place. This B&B should not be taking guests in the state it is in. It is the worst place I have ever stayed in !! Save your money and book elsewhere !

The Albert Arms

A historic pub with rooms located on the high street in Esher. A perfect combination of a cosy and welcoming gastropub with all the modern luxuries and conveniences you'd expect from a hotel. Our bedrooms are housed in a mews house near the pub. All rooms are equipped with 1600 spring mattresses, the finest Egyptian cotton linen & en-suite bathrooms

Disappointed by the staff attitude

Reviewed By frequentlywrong

Very poor attitude by the staff. Residents of the hotel can be served a drink after 11pm on a Saturday night (it was 11.05). They have a late licence anyway but are choosing not to use it. Pretending it’s “the law” is ignorance, it might be Fuller’s policy but it isn’t the law. Hotel residents can be served after hours (which was not the case in any event). Coupled with the fact there are no breakfast facilities I am taking my regular custom to The Bear

Good option if dining

Reviewed By keithamara

If you are eating at Jose Pizarro at the Swan their rooms are a really good option rather than staying elsewhere! Clean and contemporary although they are quite small - even the 'king' room has a 4'6" bed - but very comfy and the breakfast choice is limited but good. The rooms are are also very well priced.

Sandown Park Lodge

RACING IS CANCELLED

Reviewed By Chris C

My wife and I had booked the hotel some time ago to allow us to attend the racing at Sandown Park; unfortunately this was cancelled due to inclement weather. We found this out at about 0730hrs when the Lodge called guests who they thought might be coming for the racing - the Jockey Club hadn't told us. This kind gesture saved us the expense and time of travelling for no reason. They also didn't charge us, for what amounts to a late cancellation. This kindness was very much appreciated.
