Don’t be fooled by the nice gardens
Reviewed By TiredTrotterAs a place to eat, IWI is really pleasant : You’ll most likely sit in the huge garden, at a shady parasol table, where you’ll be surrounded by lovely trees and well away from the main road. The service is good, the atmosphere calm and uplifting, and the food, whilst not the best I’ve ever tasted in Kenya, is dependable enough. We’d eaten lunch here and enjoyed all of that, which led us to assume that the hotel itself would be equally high quality. How wrong we were.... The chalet type room was very dated and poorly maintained, feeling a bit dirty and dilapidated. It lacked a/c (they brought me a fan but it was very old and noisy and I ended up having to switch it off). The shower seemed not to have any hot water and the bathroom / wc window was right onto the path outside, meaning - ahem - privacy was in short supply. The front door was steel framed glass and again, not very private as the curtain was torn so passers by could see right into the sleeping area. The door handle came off in my hand as it had snapped and not been repaired. At breakfast, there was really nothing much. A few sausages and hard boiled eggs. They made me an omelette and that was as good as it got. You don’t expect The Ritz when staying in a place like Embu, and as I say, dinner al fresco at the IWI is a treat, so it’s not a single - star verdict. But if you’re after accommodation, don’t be fooled by those neatly manicured lawns.

Not very memorable
Reviewed By Foxychiri88We were in Embu on a work assignment and were booked at this hotel. The check in and check out process was quite slow for my liking (about 10mins each) considering that we had been booked in advance and they were expecting us. The welcome drink of watermelon juice at the reception didn’t smell fresh so I opted not to drink it. The rooms are very spacious, but with very tiny cheap-lookingTVs that hardly have any channels. The bathrooms are clean though the water in the toilet was dark brown and I had to flush it away wondering whether it had been used and left like that. The pillows are hard and too thick and the mattress was a bit stiff. The highlight was the breakfast which was pretty decent. It had a good selection of cereal, fruits, juices, tea/coffee, potatoes, sausages, baked beans, sweet potatoes, arrow roots, mixed veggies and french toast. It’s an average place if you’re used to fancy hotels. And there’s no elevator or ramp for guests who may happen to be in wheelchairs.

BEST HOTEL IN EMBU SO FAR

First is the high level of cleanliness, Staff are professional polite and helpful, Rooms are classy and well spacious. My kids and I had fun as there's kids play area with swings, slides, bouncing castle,Carousel and a train and I did enjoy the gym and pool.

Nice place very affordable
Reviewed By insydeedOur stay was short but our expectations were met. Friendly staff, good food that is cooked on order thus may take a little bit of time. However they have satelite TV and a good bar to keep you busy as you wait. Ample and secure parking as well. The rooms are good being fairly new (place is two years old) and have good amenities. They dont have a fridge though. Also the hotel requires a swimming pool and a gym though some construction is going on and management says they will offer these soon. Overall a nice place for a short stay

Reviewed By Eileen NIt's a fairly ok hotel but dated facilities. The management can do better improve on the food service they are slow and don't keep time especially breakfast. The staff at the reception were very helpful. I was very impressed. I recommend the place since its right along Embu-Meru Road.

Reviewed By Peter CThe hotel is in an excellent setting, with nice gardens. Spacious, comfortable room, breakfast ok. But, oh my, they need to address issues in the kitchen !! The restaurant was practically empty (I think I know the reason) - we chose fairly basic, including soup starter, and it took over 90 minutes before we were served at all!! Really, no excuse, unacceptable and will affect my choice whether to go there again....need to get this sorted out, I am told it’s always the same...

No frills, great for a low budget.
Reviewed By sjc3jumpIf you are on a tight budget, this place will work. At 10 dollars a night for a single room, you have more money in your pocket. The room wasn't big or special, but it was adequate. They clean the room every day, sometimes I had to wait to get into my room if I came back from business too early in the day. The restaurant has decent food, and the staff spoke English pretty well- which is helpful for me having zero Swahili. There is a church very close by that can get a bit annoying with how loud they get. Overall it was a decent stay.
