Responding to Nonsense!

Reviewed By N9257AMmichaelb

My wife Linda received a reply to her review of the Blazing Donkey which sadly is purely slanderous and excessive. At first I thought the reply was for someone else it was so inaccurate! We booked this hotel as the website stated that it was dog friendly, we also observed that it was set in lovely grounds so we assumed that this would be a lovely relaxing place to walk our elderly dogs expecting dog bins to be provided. On arrival were immediately informed that the dogs could not be walked in the grounds as it was used as a wedding venue, we were disappointed but accepted this and asked if there were any suitable areas nearby. Only the country lane outside was suggested. My wife, having worked for the PDSA, RSPCA and Blue Cross animal charities and now the NHS thought, as did I, that this didn't seem very dog friendly! Nowhere does it state on the website that dogs are not allowed in the grounds. All of our points raised were valid, but I'm afraid the replies to them were not. For example, it was suggested that the old mattress stains were made by our dogs, we brought their own dog beds and a cover for the sofa, the dogs were with us at all times and never left alone in the room so were not on the bed at any time and therefore could not have caused the stains or any damp smells. Also our dogs were never walked off their leads and certainly didn't intimidate any other guests as they are 12 years old and are slow docile medium sized crossbreeds. We enjoyed 2 meals in the bar area accompanied by our dogs and at no time were there any comments or objections to them from staff or other guests. Furthermore, leaving a broken taped over non-repaired electrical socket in our room is extremely dangerous. I reported this when we checked out (along with the faulty bathroom light and front door bolt), so I would hope this has been rectified. It is one thing to disagree on certain details of a review, but to make up incidents that didn't happen is quite frankly ludicrous. I could go on but the usual denial and further nonsense and fabrication would surely follow. Michael Buckingham.

Really poor stay

Reviewed By marktpaton

Our original room (16) was at the top of a smelly stairwell which had laundry on it. There was paint peeling from the wall and there was no hot water. We were offered a room move to a suite but when the Asst Manager tried to let us in we discovered there were already people staying in it! Then we were given room 6 which is very small and a tiny double bed. We did however have hot water in the 1970's dated and dirty bathroom. We were very disappointed. The manager did actually give us a free stay in the end but I do have serious concerns about this place. It needs a big investment in both rooms and cleaning.

Fabulous short weekend break

Reviewed By Ellie S

Myself and my partner treated ourselves to a short weekend get away by the coast, following the birth of our son. Our room was on the smaller side but tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. We did hear the church bells initially, but after an hour these faded away and we had a cosy nights sleep. Breakfast was included in our room rate, so we took full advantage! Good strong coffee and unusual breakfast dishes which we highly enjoyed. The dining at The Rose was probably the highlight of our stay, the food is delicious and very beautifully presented. Staff were friendly, attentive and highly accommodating. All in all we had a perfect get away as our first proper trip just the two of us. We will certainly be back to Deal in the future, this time with the little one in tow!
