Wonderful Hotel

Reviewed By Kbmounty

We stayed at the Churston Court Hotel for one night on Saturday 23rd April 2022. The check in was simple and we were shown to our room and was very pleased with the room. Nice size room and very clean and tidy. We spent the evening in the bar and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The following morning, the full English breakfast was superb. I have read earlier reviews running the hotel down but, we have nothing but praise for the Hotel. Set in a lovely area, you couldn’t ask for anything better.

Great place to stay.

Lovely old building in a great location overlooking Brixham Harbour. The hotel is old and quirky with lots of character and many stairs (no lift). The staff are lovely, very friendly and competent. Our room was very comfortable with a large bed and perfectly adequate bathroom ( with a good power shower). We had dinner in the hotel on one night and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The pub, next door, part of the same business, was delightful.

The Railway Inn

The Railway Inn has 6 great sized bedrooms, tastefully decorated and the ensuite facilities have been renewed. All the furnishings are of a good quality and each room has a 26" Sony flat-sceen Freeview television, hair-dryer and a large ceiling fan, as well as tea and coffee making facilities. All bedrooms are on the first floor and we do not have a lift. The Inn is open for food, Lunch and Dinner, 7 days a week. Sundays food is served all day. The bar is open all day from 11am. A great cooked breakfast is available. The restaurant is all freshly cooked and locally sourced where possible. Great local Real Ales and excellent quality soft drinks and Wine is served too. Brilliant location on the English Riviera. A Steam Railway next door and Golf Course across the road.

Not been here for years and not disappointed.

I have not been to The Railway for a number of years since it was The Weary Ploughman. Couple of changes in ownership and we decided to pay a visit. Ample parking that’s chargeable to some extent, so check out the signage and tell staff you’ve parked. There’s a device to log your vehicle for free parking which is completely reasonable since next door is the Paignton Dartmouth Steam Railway station. It was really quiet when my daughter and I visited as the Torbay Airshow was on and that always seems to create a vacuum in the surrounding area. Good wide range of menu with some Specials and a childrens menu for the 10s and under. We both opted for the cod and chips and were not disappointed. Great crispy battered cod, chips, side salad and tartare sauce with mushy peas. Ample portion really and came out in a reasonable time. Staff helpful and chatty. Shame it was so quiet for a summer Saturday afternoon. They also have half a dozen rooms with reasonable rates. Might not compare directly with the chain hotels but this is a pub/hotel in a quiet area, on a main bus route close to Brixham - where there’s little or no parking, and easy access to the rest of the Bay. The steam railway feet away will give you access to Kingswear and Dartmouth as well as Paignton, so is quite a viable hostelry as a base for a few days and to leave the car. Well worth a visit.
