The Yellow House

Perfect for Solo cultural and adventure travelers

Reviewed By Traveler789429

a wonderful service both the Hostel and the travel agency. They have a travel agency and their service is super comfortable. They always pick you up on time. I made the mistake of arriving 10 minutes after the pick-up time . those from the Yellow House (Brenda) and those from the Hotel Casa Sofía (Estu) delayed that the driver Chepin (Alfredo Jiménez), would like to leave me and the French traveler so if they tell you at 12:30, be punctual (10 minutes before, as Chepin emphasized) . I am also sure that he could have avoided the scolding as if we were small children and also that he will repeatedly remind us of the insufficient 400 dollars a month he receives in salary). again yellow house (Brenda) thank you for interceding so that they will wait for us and always ensure our safety and comfort. the breakfast buffet is delicious and super mega sincerely recommended in all of guatemala in the 3 weeks i spent in the country i did not find any buffet so deliciously prepared and with so much love. so well the cleanliness of the facilities is unbeatable. I am delighted. its services and atmosphere is ideal for solo travelers and those who enjoy connecting with locals. If you stay here you won't regret it at all.

Earth Lodge has a full restaurant and bar, serving breakfast and lunch from menus and a family style dinner each night. There is ample hiking in the surrounding farm fields, plus a wide array of board games, books and movies to keep you entertained. We offer yoga classes most days in our brand new yoga studio!

Can't say enough about this amazing place!!!

It's hard to summarize just how awesome Earth Lodge is, but I will give it my best shot!! First of all...yes, it is not the easiest place to get to, but that's what makes it part of the adventure!! Earth Lodge is an eco friendly hotel that is situated on the side of a mountain so that means walking up and down a path to get there. Uber can be hit and miss, but they do have their own (paid) shuttle, which we never had a problem with. Because it's slightly isolated, that means that it is SUPER quiet and peaceful. The staff are amazingly friendly, the food is so fresh and delicious and the rooms are all different and comfortable. We kept extending our stay, so moved to 3 different rooms. And the yoga studio!!! Seriously the most amazing yoga space I have ever seen. Huge windows look out to the volcanos, and the birds are chirping during your morning classes!! We took several classes and loved every one. We saw that they also offer massages, but weren't able to organize a time, as the masseuse was always booked. We wished we could've stayed longer, but had a flight out and had to go!! The hotel was able to organize a Covid test for us so we could return home, and the lab worker came straight up to the lodge so we didn't have to waste time going down to Antigua. Definitey would recommend for nature lovers, and those that are looking for a different, chill experience.

Beautiful place in Antigua

Reviewed By Carolina M

My partner and I spent 5 nights at Maya Papaya and loved it! We booked our stay very last minute, as we had heard positive things about the place but it looked fully booked online. So we showed up at the reception and asked if they could somehow accommodate us for the week. The staff was super kind and made it happen - we had to change room three times but that was absolutely fine and a smooth process, simply moving our things from one room to the other. Having seen three different rooms (both with shared bathroom and ensuite) we loved all of them. Clean, spacious, comfortable beds, powerful hot shower, nice simple decor, quiet. The garden and cafe area are perfect to relax and chill in the sun or shade after visiting the city and to enjoy breakfast (one savoury and one sweet option to choose from - we loved the oatmeal with fruit, yogurt and macadamia nuts). The staff is super kind, all nice and friendly people who are happy to help with any logistics and planning you might need. Definitely recommend, and we would love to go back!

A good choice outside the city center

Reviewed By dgbtravel

As recommended by my guide, I feel the cost of my stay was well worth it. It's a bit of a walk from the city center (far NE corner of the area where most tourists roam), but definitely not an issue. Christian and his staff were very accommodating and a pleasure to talk to. Since part of the hotel is set up like a hostel, there is no shortage of conversation in the outside common area with interesting guests. I enjoyed watching a local artist paint wall murals near the bunk rooms. There's also a beautiful garden near the private rooms, and you can catch a nap outside easily if so inclined. My only issue was I had a bit of trouble keeping warm in the room at night, and would say that the rooms might not be as well insulated as you would expect when the temperature gets down below 60 degrees, so something to keep in mind.

Probably the best hostel o have ever stayed in

Reviewed By helelle

I absolutely cannot find the words to explain how great this hostel is. Impeccably clean and quiet and in a great location. Also really safe for single female travellers. Comfortable beds and plenty of social space as well as a well stocked kitchen. The best part is the reception team, so welcoming and friendly and really go above and beyond to help. I got stuck after missing my connecting flight but they were super flexible and organised a transfer to get my there safely at last minute (i wasn't sure I was going to make my rebooked flight) we stored our baggage there for Free during the volcano hike and they also gave us loads of tips of things to see and where to eat. Massive thanks to them all and i would stay there again.

Not clean

For the price, this place is not great. We stayed here during Semana Santa and everything else was booked. The room was dirty, the water in the shower cold, and there were no towels or bath mat. It's four walls with two beds, and nothing else. The window to the courtyard has no glass or curtains, so you can either leave it open to mosquitoes and everyone can look in, or you close it and feel imprisoned. The nicest thing about this place is the courtyard, which is very pretty.

Casa Santa Lucia Hotel

A great place

Reviewed By Wanderhoof

I attended the Easter Processions for the 3rd time and booked 8 months prior, when the entire town was close to booked up and left few choices. The hotel Casa Santa Lucia was listed as being "distant" from town centre, but in fact was barely a 10 minute walk. It was also close to grocery stores and historic sites such as the public wash tubs and famous arch. The hotel is bare bones but offers a spotlessly clean room with a private toilet and shower, for Canadian $30 a night for 2 twin beds in high season! It does not have a breakfast cafe but is close to streets of restaurants and cafes. It is also close to the huge public market, the outdoor bus "terminal", tuktuks, and taxis. Feral dogs barked all night and I could not close the windows due to no ac in the hotel, but you get used to the ambient noise. I noted Guatemalan families booked an entire floor (of 3). It has a great rooftop terrace with tables, chairs, and umbrella shade, and has a spectacular 360 degree view including the smoking volcano. The staff spoke next to no English, and I spoke limited Spanish, but they bent over backwards to help me understand maps they provided, marking out routes and landmarks. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel for budget conscious travellers.
