Franciscan Museum Karlovac

Opened in 2008 at the 350th anniversary of Franciscan arrival to Karlovac, it represents one of the best preserved collections in the city with numerous artefacts dating centuries back. Located in the heart of the old town, offering a very interesting leap into the history of Karlovac with a good price - value ratio. It's possible to arrange a visit even outside of the work hours via email or by phone (both are listed). *NOTE - CREDIT CARD not accepted/cash only. :)

It is a pleasure to walk through the four centuries old history of Karlovac with an excellent guide. The church was built at the same time as the fort itself, with various parts added through the centuries, and is the very heart of the town’s spiritual life. It is also a part of the town’s religious heritage, and an unavoidable point for meeting history, people and one’s own self.

Trakoscan Castle (Dvor Trakoscan)

A 19th-century restoration of a 13th-century castle.

While you probably haven't heard of this castle much, it's a real gem that's worth visiting. It's amazingly well preserved, in a unique location, and tells an interesting story about a noble Croatian family that served the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including interesting hunting trophies and historical equipment. Be prepared for a lot of walking and slopes, as the hill that it's located on is no joke, and the castle might seem "small" when viewed from below, but it stretches upwards for more than a dozen floors. However, once you reach the top floors, you will be rewarded by some truly magnificent views of the surrounding land. Absolutely baffled at the gentleman in the previous comments expecting to find something the size of Windsor or Schönbrunn in the remote mountains of Croatia.

Excellent displays which were in English and Croatian made visiting this amazing museum a pleasure. The well organized layout, uncluttered display of artifacts and well lit rooms made the tour of the building an easy and educational stop for an afternoon.

I visited this rate and unusual Museum that displays photographic exhibits by renowned photojournalists who covered recent and earlier regional and global conflicts. It's commendable that these photographers risking their lives and career captured such traumatic and frightening images from remote areas to sensitize the world about the futility and meaningless injustices that happened and continue to happen in this insane world. There is permanent exhibition of iconic images titled The End of Yugoslavia , photographs by Alfred Yaghobzadeh from Iran-Iraq war, special images and narration from Tim Page from NAM conflict. This is a must visit for any traveller who could understand how wars and violent conflicts lead too unimaginable human agony and why world deserve peace. There is admission ticket and photography is allowed inside. The brochure in english is quite informative. Located at the entrance of Antuninska in a lane at main street Stradan, not to be missed.
