BS"D We had a four day tour of East Iceland. Travel East Iceland is the best tour company we have ever used in our travels worldwide, both from in terms of the planning (including daily scheduling, accommodations--which were all wonderful--and transportation--which was superb--all of which were carefully thought out and executed) and the guide herself (whose characteristics are described below). We were the recipients of a seamless and professional operation that thought of and planned for all contingencies. The company is super-competent and the employees exemplary. Our Guide gets a 10 out of 10 on all the characteristics* listed below! (To help me write this review and capture the essence of our amazing trip, I googled the top qualities of tour guide and cobbled the qualities listed below.) 1. SHE HAD STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS She spoke clearly and it was very easy to understand her. 2. SHE WAS PERSONABLE, OUTGOING AND EMPATHIC Our guide was kind, sensitive, and knew how to make an immediate connection with us. She was sensitive to our individual needs including some mobility issues. The first day she realized one of us couldn’t quite climb into the super jeep so easily—so immediately procured a step stool to use! 3. SHE HAD AN INCREDIBLE MEMORY, RELAYED ACCURATE INFORMATION AND HELPED US LEARN ABOUT THE PLACES WE SAW AND HAD GREAT ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS Not only did she have the statistics and facts under her belt but also she was a great storyteller, she regaled us with much of the folklore of East Iceland. She told the stories as if she had lived them! Consequently we came back with tremendous knowledge of the culture and history and folklore! 4. SHE HAD GREAT IMPROVISATIONAL SKILLS She tapped into our energy and fielded our questions with skill and grace! She seemed unflappable. 5. SHE HAD JUST ENOUGH ENTHUSIASM ABOUT THE PLACES WE VISITED AND PARTICULARLY THE WILDLIFE WE WERE PRIVILEGED TO SEE Her enthusiasm for the area in which she guided us was genuine and catching as well. 6. SHE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR She had a keen sense of humor and was able to play off ours as well. 7. SHE WAS ALWAYS ON TIME She was always on time, sometimes early (and never seemed perturbed that we were a few minutes late)! 8. SHE HAD A KEEN SENSE OF DIRECTION She had a keen sense of direction, guided and drove us snow drifts three feet high, when visibility was poor, etc. She was amazing! 9. SHE HAD TREMENDOUSLY DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF THE LOCATIONS WE VISITED. She grew up in East Iceland and knew every nook and cranny of the places we visited. Her stories were genuine because she lived it/grew up with those stories. 10. SHE HAD TREMENDOUS PASSION FOR EAST ICELAND She brought her own experience to the tours she gave us which made things come alive for us, including the wildlife that she spotted for us to view!!! 11. SHE ACTED WITH THE GREATEST PROFESSIONALISM AND MADE US FEEL TREMENDOUSLY SAFE AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF -- AND TOO BOOT WAS A SKILLED PARAMEDIC AND EMERGENCY RESCUE PERSON AS WELL! (THANK G-D WE DID NOT NEED THOSE SERVICES, BUT IT WAS GOOD TO KNOW SHE HAD THOSE SKILLS!) Highly recommend this tour if you planning to visit Iceland. Jens, one of the owner of this company is an understanding, responsible, professional and knowledgeable guide. We have joined the aurora and glacier tour in Feb 2020 and it was an unforgettable experience in my life. Just 3 of us in the group, like engaged a private tour. Jens will share the history of Iceland throughout the journey. Sometimes, he might be a bit quiet, but he will be able to answer every question and share the tips with you. Breakfast and dinner were included in the tour and he will stop along the way in town for us to grab the lunch. Breakfast is in buffet style and dinner prepared by the Farmhouse/Guesthouse was really really delicious! The Farm stay and guesthouse were cozy with nice view. The tour is reasonably priced and worth every penny.

My wife and I were supposed to go on tour with this group on Thursday, 13/05/2021 and we recieved an email the day before stateing the tour was canceled due to covid restrictions. This is odd as there were still tour groups doing tours, and had this been the real issue they should have told us sooner than a day prior. This short notice cost us a large amount of money in setting up a tour with a different group.

We had a wonderful 6 day tour around the country wtih Friend in Iceland. As I came with my father, we chose to go on a guided tour, which made our trip much more easy, we did not have to think about anything. Gunnar made it sure we see the important places, but also took us to less visited and even more beautiful areas. He was flexible and adapted the tour to our interests and needs, but still made it sure to make the most of our trip. It was actually driving with a local, who shared all the important facts and stories. We were very lucky to have him available to tour us around and to be able to visit the country in these difficult times, which also meant the places were much less filled with tourists. It is an amazing country and I hope to come back again soon and visit other places with Friend in Iceland. Thank you for everything!
