We had a lovely time with Michel and Ilham at the cooking class, the hospitality was excellent, Michel is always making jokes and Ilham is so lovely! We made bread, salads, tagine and pancakes all were delicious! The extra touches they add really make the experience. We particularly liked the spice school. If your visiting marrakech I’d 100% recommend giving this class a go, you’ll learn to cook, eat delicious food and spend your day in great company.

This small saffron farm truly is a paradise, a relaxing and restorative break from the hustle of the cities, a destination worth the trip (45 minutes from Marrakech) for its beauty alone. Everything within this garden is lovingly cared for, which radiates through its blooming plants and healthy, happy animals. Christine and her staff provide a warm welcome with her stories and their tea with home-made traditional bread. It is worth your time in any season.

Jarjeer Mules

Jarjeer can be found in the Berber village of Oumnass just 24 kms south of Marrakech in the foothills of the High Atlas. We are a sanctuary and home to many animals. Our team of magical donkeys are friendly and always very happy to see visitors. The local people are friendly and welcoming. The community is very close with tight family ties and the culture remains traditional. All our muleteers live in the village. Transport can be arranged. Please contact us by email. For the adventurous, a bus journey is an excellent idea. The number 45 bus to Amizmiz leaves the bus station opposite the Koutoubia Mosque. Local people in the Medina will be happy to direct you. The journey takes approximately 30 mins and costs just 6 dms per head, ask to dismount at Oumnass. If you telephone or email in advance we will meet you at the bus stop in Oumnass or you will see the sign to Jarjeer as leave the bus. Note: Here at Jarjeer our donkeys provide therapeutic riding for disabled children.

This fabulous place is run by a fascinating English couple, Susan & Charles, who retired to Morocco 10 years ago. Together with their local team they have rescued donkey’s and mules from across Morocco, saving them from further mistreatment and abandon. Many of the donkey’s & mules have hoof deformities, and many were too weak to stand when they arrived - here they’re nursed back to health and assured a safe and happy life. What Susan & Charles have created here, and the work that they are doing is incredible, it’s such a nice place to spend a morning, afternoon, day (or week!). It’s also a nice way to learn more about and contribute to the local community, as through this initiative the sanctuary supports the local people in numerous different ways. I had no idea that I’d develop such a soft spot for donkey’s during our visit here, they have such beautiful nature’s - the gentlest of souls that adore human contact. Despite arriving unannounced we were warmly welcomed and given an incredibly interesting and informative tour of the entire sanctuary. We were introduced to all of the donkey’s and learned so much from Susan & Charles, who are thoroughly entertaining. If you’re in the area it’s well worth a visit here, we highly recommend it. Thank you Susan & Charles for your company and hospitality, we hope to return again next year, Alistair & Grace
