Margalla Hills

Reviewed By AJ-0017 - Islamabad, Pakistan

Margalla hills are part of the Himalayas (its extension) and surround Islamabad. They are lush green and rocky with springs here and there. You can visit the hills in a car and also visit the various trails for hiking. There are 6 hiking trails, the most commonly visited are trail 1, 3 and 5. Trail 1 is the easiest and only takes 45-50 minutes climb to Daman e Koh. Trail 3 is steep and takes 3 hours of strenuous hike to top at Monal restaurant. Trail 5 is 5 kms and first 2 -3 kms are easy while the 2 kms is the steepest and require quite an effort to climb. It takes around 3 hours of strenuous hike to reach the top so take water along with you. This trail is criss crossed by water streams and springs. The views from above are breath taking and refreshing. It’s better to go for hiking on any of these trails early in the morning or late afternoon. And don’t forget a sun cap and good quality hiking shoes or joggers.

Passu Glacier

Reviewed By flyfisher66 - Islamabad, Pakistan

Located in Gojal region of Hunza, Passu is one of those few glaciers along Karakoram Highway (KKH) that are very clearly visible write from the road. There are four glaciers in Gulmit region that have a snout ending right on the KKH (from south to north, these are Gulmit Glacier, Ghulkin Glacier, Passu Glacier and Batura Glacier). Passu is the most clearly visible of the four. Right infront of the snout, KKH takes a turn and provides a brilliant view of the ascending glacier. On can take very good photos right from the road and if one climbs for 15-20 minutes on the nearby hills, excellent views of the glacier are available. On a clear day, one can also get a very good view of 24970 ft high Shispare Sar and 24534 ft Passu Peak. It's an excellent stop over while going to Khunjerab. Glacier Breeze Restaurant is located just below the snow of the Passu Glacier and provides good coffe, tea and appricot cake.

Hoper Glacier, NAGAR

Reviewed By veer030 - Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan

Hoper Glacier is also known as Bualtar Glacier. We rented a jeep from Karimabad to reach there. It was 40-50 mint drive. The road is single and somewhat bad at places. After only a light trek, one reaches the top of a viewpoint. There are two small hotels that provide reasonable lodging facilities. Its far-flung, its ceremonious and its fascinating.
