Had never even heard of Elephant Rock despite it being virtually on our doorstep, but have made a few trips since discovering it. It’s on a very scenic windswept coastal pathway, bordered with glorious gorse and wildflowers- but beware the dog-poop, as this walk is very popular with negligent dog-walkers. On our last trip there , there were crazy youngsters sunbathing on what looked like a precarious upper area of the rock. The little family memorial en-route is very poignant, as are the fisherman’s cottages - sadly fallen to rack and ruin. This is also true of the limekilns , and there is a warning ⚠️ sign advising of the dangerous state of the building - so perhaps best to admire from afar. Nice views out to sea of sheltering vessels and across to the sands of lovely Lunan Bay.

Harbour Bar, Gourdon

We had been recommended to visit this place by friends who had dined here recently and were not disappointed. After a long walk, we visited it for lunch and found a cheerful welcome together with a refreshing pint of Orchard Thieves Cider which we tasted for the first and not the last time. The scampi & chips was excellent and very good value too. The place is small and homely. However the pool table, which as not being used at the time of our visit, seemed to take up a significant proportion of the floor space of this delightful wee village pub. We will certainly call in here again.

St Cyrus National Nature Reserve

Reviewed By NaomiFran - Sunderland, United Kingdom

Parked for free at The Old Lifeboat Station/Nether Warburton, Montrose, DD10 0AQ, which allowed for a short walk to the beach rather than other available routes which would require a walk down the steep hillsides. The toilets were open which was an added bonus. The walk to the beach takes you over a wooden bridge where you can observe lots of lovely greenery and then you’re on the beach and met with amazing views. You can see a waterfall in the distance, large expanse of the beach, rocky hill sides with greenery providing the backdrop and of couse the large expanse of the sea. On a sunny day it would be great for a relaxing spot. My family and I visited to walk the beach and were in awe of how beautiful a place it is. There were harmless jelly fish on the beach, rock pools where we spotted crabs, rocks that could be climbed, a cave to explore and of course look at the fab waterfall. Definitely a must see when in this beautiful part of the world!

Montrose Beach

Reviewed By Ennie123 - Scotland, United Kingdom

Montrose Beach is one of my most favourite beaches on the north east coast of Scotland. I have been visiting this beach since I was a child. Easy to walk or drive too from the centre of Montrose. Ample parking near the beach, toilet facilities available but limited depending on the time of year you go. Play park and paddling pools available, cafe and shop too. The beach itself is easy to access but for those with mobility issues the steps too and from the main part of the beach this might cause some issues. The beach is always popular with those wanting to walk along the sands, dog walkers, families, couples etc. It is kept clean and tidy. Obviously with being on the North Sea you have to watch when paddling or swimming and keep your wits about you. A beautiful beach in a stunning setting and well worth a visit at any time of the year!

The viaduct alone stands out as an impressive piece of enginerring but when it is viewed as a framework for the Montrose Basin or as a background for the small boats and beautiful landscape it is quite a unique feature.

Steptoe's Yard

Reviewed By whathavewegot - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Steptoes is a wonderful place. It saddens me to see the negative reviews here as I’ve never discovered anywhere quite like it. I’m not sure what folk expect sometimes. I have bought lots of stuff from here over the years. If you are prepared to have a good look there is plenty to find but don’t expect it to be categorised or in any order. Take your time and have a good look around. If you want order and safety stay at home and use Amazon. If you want something different then try Steptoes. There’s a wonderful beach further along the road so if you combine the two in your visit you won’t be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable and if you gather a number of items together you usually get a good deal. Don’t expect it for nothing though.
