Monument aux Girondins

We walked here from our hotel .The fountain and towering column was erected 1894 - 1902. Amazing status of sea horses and sculptures. The only negative is the amusement park spoiled some of the view.

A nice Lavoir, well kept, that seeps history. You can sit in the restaurant next door, and soak in historic days gone by. Well worth a visit.

Fontaine des Trois Graces

Visconi, the architect/designer for this piece died well before the fountain could be crafted but he did leave the blueprints which his sons delivered, dutifully, to the authorities. Much later, the dream was realized but not without a few changes: the graces were supposed to be robed or modestly covered but not so much today. The fountain sprung to life in 1869 and the three beauties Aglaia (grace), Euphrosyne (beauty), and Thalia (mirth) took center-stage. They are the mythological daughters of Zeus and Euronyme. They pour pitchers of water. We really liked the little mischevious cherub-like creatures at the base of the fountain. They look like they are holding up the weight of the fountain Atlas-style. This is a beauty. Every public square should have a fountain. What nicer anchor can there be?
