10 Food & Drink in Chilean Patagonia That You Shouldn't Miss

December 8, 2021 Concepcion Newsome

Dazzling fjords and vertiginous Andean peaks cover Chile's best-known region, turning this slim swath of land into a playground for skiing, whitewater rafting and trekking. To the north lies San Rafael Lagoon National Park with its impressive ice fields. In Patagonia's southern stretch, the city of Punta Arenas is the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park, which attracts serious climbers and casual day hikers to its granite peaks, glaciers and waterfalls.

Tepaluma

Tepaluma is a young distillery handcrafting whisky and gin on the Austral Highway. Visit the distillery for the day or stay in our B&B, book a tasting session, relax at the bar or in the garden with a G&T and buy Tepaluma at distillery prices. Tepaluma Gin is a herbal, premium gin, inspired by nature. Smell the trees and taste the fruits of the local forests. Drink the ice cold waters flowing from the snowcapped mountains.

We very much enjoyed the distillery tour and learning about gin. Andrea and Mark are great hosts, and passionate about crafting their product. We did not know much about gin when we arrived. But we loved their story and their gin. Plan to make room for a couple of bottles.

My name is Gerardo, after 20 years of living all over the map I am back in my native Punta Arenas. Southern Patagonia has a charm that I have not found anywhere else; the colorful sky draped behind towering mountains, the unique flavors and aromas, the friendly locals, the epic sagas of conquest and passion. Our clients experience this and much more. We will take care of everything, so all you have to do is kick back, have some wine, and experience Patagonia like family.

Cerveceria Hernando de Magallanes

Small independent brewery. Have about 6 types of beer which they brew on-site in limited quantity. They also have in their show cases beer from around the world but not sure if it's for sale. A very pretty and interesting place to visit. You cannot drink on site but there are benches a few minutes walk along the seafront where you could possibly sit and enjoy your beer. Not a beer drinker but loved the stout!!! hey also sell things like t-shirts.

Great little distillery and bar off the main road in Puerto Natales. Upon entering we were greeted right away and served samples of their house distilled gin. I’m not much of a gin drinker and even I liked it straight up. They rotate the cocktails every month, using fresh, local ingredients. I tried 3 cocktails and each was unique, delicious, and presented exquisitely. The staff was attentive and talented. Will return!
