The 10 best hotels in Chilean Patagonia, Chile

December 19, 2022 Layne Dawes

Dazzling fjords and vertiginous Andean peaks cover Chile's best-known region, turning this slim swath of land into a playground for skiing, whitewater rafting and trekking. To the north lies San Rafael Lagoon National Park with its impressive ice fields. In Patagonia's southern stretch, the city of Punta Arenas is the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park, which attracts serious climbers and casual day hikers to its granite peaks, glaciers and waterfalls.

It is an innovative construction that rescues architectural language used in the Aysen region (like the tingle), where one of its main activities is the timber. Proposes the addition of new applications and materials such as ceiling and mañío, volcanic rock on fireplace and fences. Our goal is to become a landmark eco-tourism, where accommodation is offered in a warm and welcoming ambient

An intimate and wonderful gem

Reviewed By Barbrodri

This is a lovely hotel, a really cozy and intimate gem. The building is entirely built in timber which provides a warm and beautiful atmosphere. Bed sheets and towels are shiny white and the beds are wonderful. The rooms are not that wide, but it wasn't a problem for us as we were only there during night time. Windows are not that wide which makes sense if these are not double pane and the goal is to keep the perfect room temperature. Toilet and shower worked great. The staff is incredibly friendly and always helpful Location is central and breakfast is awesome!

Great hotel and owner

Reviewed By C0l0mbianvisit0r

I took the perfect review record with a grain of salt, given the small sample size. But after staying three nights at Appelgren House, the score seems understated. The minimalist hotel exterior conceals a wealth of treasures within. Artwork and artifacts from the proprietors' very extensive world travels are tastefully arrayed on the hotel's walls, ceilings, and floors. The place is less a boutique hotel than a museum. Better yet, owner Heliodoro promptly and thoroughly dispelled our confusion about how to best access the Torres park and area surrounding El Calafate. Clearly invested in making sure we had a good time, with charm, wit, and exemplary taste, he set out an itinerary, made reservations, and even pulled strings for us. This included steering us to great restaurants and even particular dishes on the menu (before we left for Buenos Aires, he made us a list of places to eat - all have been wonderful). Every suggestion panned out beautifully. The value of a person who can help you get the most out of a substantial investment in traveling to the extreme other side of the world can hardly be overstated. I recommend Appelgren House and Heliodoro unqualifiedly.

Eco Cabanas Wanderlust

Nice cabañas, but nothing "eco" about them.

Reviewed By Andreasschliessler

Nice cabañas which I can recommend, but there is nothing that could justify the word "eco". They supply disposable bath towels made from microfiber, packed in a plastic bag, which is certainly not ecological. Also, they use scented spray to cover a slight smell of wastewater coming from the shower drain. Otherwise quite nice cabañas.

Great food. Lamb is recommended.Reception and restaurant area is simply fantastic and welcoming. Nice view from room to Plaza de Armas and/or sea. Room service is fast and hygiene measurements is highlighted. Convenient location close to a number of stores. Would prefer hard floor rather than carpet in rooms but probably is not good for cold weather. A place I will be back without a doubt. Thanks Cabo de Hornos.

Wilson at front desk was fantastic and made it an awesome stay

Reviewed By blakel900

Stayed for 2 nights with girlfriend over the 2021/2022 New Year. The hotel and the room was clean, bed was comfortable, view out into the bay was gorgeous and restaurant was great. The best part was meeting Wilson Castaneda who worked at the front desk, he's warm, helpful, and very proactive in ensuring a fantastic guest stay. I observed him working late into New Years eve and morning shift on New Year's day. Wilson spoke very good English, one of the best amongst the staff, which bridged the gap between my French and elementary Spanish for great communication. I previously opened a hotel in Manhattan, understand hotel operations, and found Wilson to be one of the best staff I've encountered during my work and travels, thus I want to recognize his good work.

Don't hesitate to stay here!

Reviewed By ITravelToEatGoodFood

Booked a somewhat trip to Patagonia and was happy to find the Weskar. Unfortunately, the pandemic started and everything was up in the air. I had booked several hotels throughout South America for the trip and ended up losing money on some reservations that wouldn't accommodate the uncertainty. The Weskar, however, worked with me and despite multiple rebookings, we were finally able to come enjoy our stay! The accommodations were lovely. We booked a superior room with fjord view for the first two nights. The bed was comfortable and all amenities were well appointed. The view was to die for (see pic). The bathroom is not in a separate room (toilet is), but everything is functional and quite comfortable. Wifi strong in lobby, but not available in rooms (kind of a blessing!). Breakfast had standard offerings of the area - some cold cuts, cheese, toast, pastries, coffee, but more than adequate. The kitchen would also make you eggs to order, including omelettes. We had dinner there once. My steak was huge. While it's not a destination restaurant, but for the convenience, it's well worth the reasonable price it. Yes, the hotel is outside of town - but that's the amazing thing that makes it much more serene! What made our experience amazing was the use of their bikes! It's such an easy ride into town along the water and a great way to get around. They were available most days, but when they ran out one morning, we walked into town. It's very doable and only take a few minutes. Not your thing? Then just take an inexpensive cab, which the front desk will call for you. All the staff was amazing and friendly. I really felt they wanted to ensure I was enjoying myself without being obtrusive. We were able to store our luggage while we trekked in TDP - which was a nice convenience. When we returned late, we were welcomed back warmly and our room was even bigger with a separate bathroom. I would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to friends. It's truly special.
