Teesdale Alpacas

Advance Booking Required : We are a working Alpaca Farm and run Alpaca Treks and Farm Visits throughout the year (subject to the Great British Weather!) We can tailor a trek or visit to suit most requirements and can arrange special Treks and Visits - Just ask and we'll see what we can do! Book as far in advance as you can as we do get very busy at weekends and during holiday periods and are often booked several months in advance! Try to have some alternate dates in mind. Please remember that both weather and animals can be unpredictable and as such we may need to cancel and rearrange at short notice. Alpaca Walks are currently £20 per person (supplement for extra people and children) and we require a minimum of two people as the alpacas prefer to go in a group. We cannot allow waiting on farm for insurance reasons but Cross Lanes Organics Farm Shop is 2 min away. Farm visits are also available at a cost of £10 per person (min 2 people) : Check out our website for more information.

Doug and Sam were friendly, welcoming and informative. We had a fantastic walk after each meeting our alpaca along with another couple. They have a beautiful serene location but very accessible. Doug and Sam answered all of our questions and were able to incorporate the social distancing measures and rules without taking away from the experience. A really enjoyable activity which I would definitely recommend!

Chanced upon this place via a video on Facebook and love their daily updates so decided to visit. 30 mins from the centre of Newcastle clearly signed although my sat nav was a bit off and with plenty of parking. Very welcoming staff to check you in and brief you and straight into the animals, well set out areas to visit from small petting area just after arrivals through to the paddocks with toilets and indoor spaces set in the middle and well looked after. Bought some feed at the entrance and joined in feeding goats, sheep, donkeys, llamas and of course the amazing herd of Highland Cows. Plenty of rides and activities for the smaller kids to enjoy as well and a bit of sheep racing during the session too. Staff all extremely polite friendly and engaging. In times of Covid plenty of room to move about, good organisation and signage, plenty of sanitising spots and bins. Stayed for 2 hours on my own but sure the kids would be more than happy with double that! Definitely going back when in the area again!

I have been visiting Cross Lanes for years. I live locally and have called in from time to time for coffee or brunch or to pick up a few things from the shop, I've been to their special events and Bonfire Night festivities and I have to say - it just gets better and better. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely and they have been incredible during lockdown, offering ready to collect shopping orders and ready made Sunday roasts. We stopped by for takeaway pizza last week and we all agreed it was the best pizza we'd had in years (especially the rosemary and goat's cheese mmmmmmmm). Great people, great food and just well worth it.

Bill Quay Community Farm

The farm has been through difficult times during the past few years.Due to budget cuts and funds being redirected to social care, the farm needs support. This is a Charity/Community Project so there are plenty of volunteering opportunities if you have some spare time to offer. The farm provides a great day out for families and inter-generation visits. The setting is semi rural and over looks the River Tyne. The support staff are dedicated to making visits enjoyable to the animals and human involvement. There are enjoyable walks which allows visitors to amble and take in some fresh air. The relaunch of the cafe (great little space, cosy and inviting) provides a nice break and sit down. The Art Project and Education room is about to be reinstated. It will be great to see the Farm come springtime with new animals and nature unfolding. Situated in lower Pelaw/Bill Quay, there are parking spaces on Fisher Well Road and a short pedestrian path to the farm. The area is a pleasant little area with quirky landmarks lots of green spaces and nature walks. The Eastern Bypass is close and there is a local Metro system a hundred yards away. The location is great for travelling south towards the coast (7 mile) and Gateshead, towards the Sage and Baltic venues.

We popped in here after the Victoria Tunnel tour as it’s super close. Mental how there is a little farm in the middle of a city. It’s lovely, very small but has everything you need if you have little ones! Also a nice walk around the farm. Thank you ????

Visited today (having visited the area two years ago and didn’t even know it was here - a real hidden gem) and we all (Grandma and my four year old son) really enjoyed it. The staff are so friendly and helpful, but at the same time leave you be to see the pigs, the sheep, the geese, the ducks and most importantly the ‘heavies’. It’s clear to see these beautiful animals are all much loved members of the family, the staff speak with such fondness of them. Being able to get so close to such giants to pet and stroke them and give them a treat is very special (if you love horses). Looking at the history behind Farm technology and how the horses were used is fascinating - and seeing all the impressive harnesses, bridles and leatherwork displayed gave a true sense of how strong these animals are. A gift shop where you can buy a souvenir and grab a slice of cake and coffee really completes the trip. Sad to miss the carriage rides but if we’re ever in the area again visit Hay Farm Heavies would definitely be on our must see list. Thank you to the boys (Teddy, Merlin, Scot, Dan and cheeky Stan) for being so patient and gentle and Cane and Sparkle too!

We visited at the weekend when they had the medieval reenactment on. Absolutely loved walking around the village visiting each tent to learn something new. The children got to try out the shields and weapons which they thought was brilliant, and we got to watch demonstrations of different crafts: tablet weaving, blacksmithing, wood carving, grinding flour, and a medieval ale recipe! The reenactment group really took the time to walk us through life in medieval times, making it fun for both the adults and children. What a great team of people! (The only thing that could improve on this would be if there was music included, like a lute player, for the full experience. Although the roosters tried their best to add sound effects!!) The farm has expanded lots since I last visited, loved the fact it's now a sanctuary that rescues animals. I'd revisit again just for a walk around here. The children got to feed the animals which was great. We visited the museum and spotted the dragons. All in all, a perfect day. Definitely recommend!

A great October half term getaway at East cottage in a crazy Covid year. We couldn't have been happier with this find. Great cottage, superbly equipped, very clean (and felt very Covid secure). A lovely rural setting. We have 3 acid tests as a family for cottages - is the WiFi as good as at home (2 kids!) are the beds as comfortable as our beds and does the shower pack a punch. This cottage ticked all 3 boxes! Better still, Shaun and Lou are excellent. On hand on site if you need them and enriched our stay with suggestions of things to do. The girls got to care for and feed a poorly goat and sheep which they absolutely loved and the walks from the cottage were numerous and stunning. Clear skies made for great star spotting and night hikes! Great part of the world - we spent time at Cragside, by the river and at the coast (Bamburgh, Farne islands, Warkworth and Alnmouth were all hits). Northumberland hit all our expectations of a great break. Couldn't recommend East Cottage highly enough.
