Ballykeefe Distillery

Ballykeefe is situated in the heartland of Ireland, adjacent to its medieval capital, Kilkenny city. It is steeped in a historic heritage and tradition, holding the unique distinction of being the birthplace of Irish Whiskey. It is from our area that the first written account of distilling in Ireland comes in 1324. It was written in the Red Book of Ossory. The word “whiskey” is an Anglicisation of the Gaelic phrase, uisce beatha, meaning “water of life”. At Ballykeefe we are now bringing a truly special “water of life” from centuries past to a new generation for their pleasure and good health. The tour; You will see up close every step in the process and also enjoy and have explained the many different aromas and smells at each stage of the brewing and distilling process. Many secrets will be revealed by our award winning Master Distiller . How he makes the “cut” to create the ''Spirit of Kilkenny''

Fantastic tour, top notch facility, fabulous people producing wonderful products! We went on numerous distillery tours during our Ireland vacation with Ballykeefe by far the best! Morgan, Jaime, Carmel, and Sarah were so down to earth and answered all of our questions. They were great with the younger kids they even enjoyed the tour too! If you travel to Ireland don’t miss Ballykeefe! I can’t wait til their products are available here in the States especially the gin! ????????????

Surprisingly this must see attraction isn't included on the Dublin Pass list. Like other reviewers we received free entry after purchasing a ticket upgrade for one of the bus tours. The staff were, in our case Emma and David, were both extremely enthusiastic in sharing their in-depth knowledge of the business and brand. The standard of renovation to the church is stunning and seeing two copper stills where the altar would normally be is pretty quirky to say the least! At the end of the tour/tasting the tea rooms are just as impressive with more friendly service and tasty cakes. Overall a fantastic visit offering a far more interesting experience than some of the better known brands.

Incredible experience, the tour guide Adam made the whole tour very easy going, easy to ask questions and gave a very detailed description of every aspect of the distilling process. The whole atmosphere is amazing! The ideal day is to arrive, have lunch in Brownes bar and make your way over to do the distillery tour.

Such a wonderful experience from start to finish. We were collected from our hotel in a lovely bus and brought us to the gin school. We got a lovely welcome and a G&T, then had a tour of the factory and got lots of fun facts about gin making at Listoke. Then we got down to making our own and it was a great laugh. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the gin was flowing throughout the experience with some lovely nibbles too. We got to make a full bottle each and it was juat so much fun. Would highly recommend it!! We might even go back again.

Old Kilbeggan Distillery

In the heart of Ireland, just over 1 hour from Dublin lies the town of Kilbeggan, home to the world's oldest distillery, established in 1757. It is the quintessential Irish whiskey distillery - whitewashed walls, weathered slate roof, brick chimney stack, creaking timber water wheel, even regular ghost sightings. This is no mere "visitor centre" but a real working distillery run by a team of young enthusiastic craftspeople (and a few wise old heads too), skilled in the traditional ways of making Irish whiskey. Open 7 days (except during Christmas and New Year). Whiskey Bar. Gift Shop. Free parking.

Reviewed By GourmetWineTravel - Zurich, Switzerland

We visited the Kilbeggan Distillery in October 2019 and it was an amazing experience for our guests, participating in our Whiskey Tour in Ireland. The Kilbeggan Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery situated on the River Brosna in Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is owned today by Beam Suntory. It started as a small pot still distillery, the licence to distil dates to 1757, a copy of which can be seen in the distillery. Similar to many Irish distilleries, Kilbeggan endured financial difficulties during the early 20th century, and ceased operations in 1957. In 1982, 25 years after the distillery ceased operations, the Kilbeggan Preservation and Development Association was formed by locals in the town. Using funds raised locally, the Association restored the Distillery, and reopened it to the public as a whiskey distillery museum. Then in 1987 Cooley Distillery bought the newly opened facility. In 2011 Beam bought Cooley and in 2014 Beam was then purchased by Suntory Holdings and became its Beam Suntory subsidiary. However, the distillery became fully operational in 2007. At the end of the tour we enjoyed of course a lovely Whiskey tasting there.
