Great stay in Mazunte

Reviewed By OilerFans

Great Accommodation We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Tierra Viva. Patti and her husband were great hosts who were very welcoming and intent on making our stay comfortable. The room was very clean and comfortable with 2 great beds and pillows. The air conditioning was a great asset. We were pleased to have access to a full sized firdge and a fully equipped kitchen and fresh coffee each morning. This little gem is only 100 metres from the beach and a short walk to restaurants, and stores for groceries etc and very close to a great bakery! We would definitely stay there again. Mazunte is a great place to chill and have a relaxing beach holiday with a great variety of restaurants and good food! We would choose one of the 5 or 6 different beach restaurants each day, and order drinks and breakfast or lunch right on the beach. No need to rents chairs or umbrellas. Now that is what I call a holiday. The boat tour to see whales and dolphins and turtles was definitely worthwhile but be sure to apply lots of sunscreen.

Lovely Family Run Hotel

Reviewed By lisah51519

Travelling as a single female for the first time I was quite nervous as to what to expect. I had checked out this hotel online and it seemed to have pretty good reviews, but I was booking last minute during a busy time of year (dia de los muertos) and on a budget since I am a grad student travelling for research, so it was not like I had too much choice. I will tell you I was more than pleasantly surprised! This place could not have been better for the circumstances. It was relatively inexpensive, I paid $50 a night, the room was recently renovated, bright and clean and the owners were just really wonderful. I was in the green villa (they are organized by colours not numbers). I had a huge king sized bed that faced my own little private garden through huge sliding glass doors. There was a TV, bed, 2 chairs and desk in the room and a little table with an umbrella outside. The bathroom had a place to hang your clothes, a towel rack, huge counter and sink, toilet, and a shower that was open to the bathroom, so it was a wet bathroom but I found the water did not really get anywhere. My room was attached to only one other so it was pretty quiet and private. I do not speak spanish so every morning the wife, Maria, would call a taxi for me to go into town. Her english is not perfect but more than enough for us to communicate, and when needed we got by with google translate. Antonio, her husband, speaks really good english and even gave me a ride twice when I had to be in town at a certain time for a tour and the taxi was going to take too long. They were very accommodating, letting me come back late after a cemetery tour, taking me to the airport (for payment), and telling me about local things I should experience, from food to sights! I honestly would have had a much different, and probably poorer, experience if I had not stayed there and had their hospitality and local knowledge to guide me. The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is because it was a little far from town, I usually had to wait 20 minutes for a taxi to come and it could take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to get there depending on traffic. (It was no big deal to me but plan accordingly) When coming back at night, it would be dark and the hotel was a little hard to find, they could benefit from a larger lit sign (the current one is just on the gate so hard to spot from a distance from a moving taxi). My taxis coming home also got lost so make sure you have screen shots of a map on you and haggle with them up front, it should only cost about 100 pesos. Also, I was in one of the further away villas so I found the wi-fi a little spotty. Usually on vacation I like not having Wi-fi but because I was travelling for school it was a little inconvenient to have to go outside or into the bathroom (where it was stronger) to get wi-fi to check email and hand in assignments. Another small thing was the fan in the room only stayed on if one of the lights was on as well, I turned the fans light off but it was still connected to another light that couldn't be shut off. Luckily it wasn't too hot while I was there so I didn't have to choose between coolness and sleeping with the light on but it was a bit strange. I also had to keep the bathroom door shut at night due to an outside light that was on, but the birds would have been loud through the window in there anyways. Overall this was a super lovely, clean, and accommodating place to stay! It is clear that the couple who run it really care about their business and know from experience what a traveler wants to experience when away from home. They live there and have a growing family so it is very obvious that they are invested in the property and its guests. I know they were working to make it even better and were working on renovations while I was there so I think it will only get better. I cannot express how grateful I am for all their help. If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay with all your basic amenities covered for a good price and don't mind be a little bit away from downtown this place is perfect!

La Palapa Cascadas Magicas

Immersed in the tropical jungle of the virgin mountains of the Southern Highlands of Oaxaca (Mexico), near to the Cascadas Magicas de Copalitilla, which really are magic waterfalls. The names of the cabins with which we count Bamboo, Ceiba (or tree of life) and Blue Butterfly. All cabins are bright, spacious and have a fantastic layout. In addition, given their circular design, they give us the possibility of directly accessing both the river and the mountain. There are two waterfalls on 10 minutes walking distance, which are great to visit for spending the day.

Wonderful host, great food, lovely palapas and gorgeous waterfalls

We had lunch at La Palapa Cascadas Magicas a few days ago when we took a ‘West-jet Maxi tour' to Magical Falls. This place is absolutely amazing. We swam in the warm and refreshing waters, had a wonderful hike to the cascading waterfalls and then had lunch at La Palapa Cascadas Magicas provided by Aida. The area is peaceful and very tranquil and would be a wonderful get-a-way for anyone wishing a break from their busy routine. Her property is beautiful and very serene, and she rents out 3 palapas on her property. Aida is a very kind and gentle person, a wonderful host, and she provided an incredible lunch. She showed our group one of her cabanas and it was exquisite: the room was lovely. It was tastefully decorated and it had a beautiful view of the river from the balcony (with screened in doors to prevent the bugs from biting). I can just imagine it at night under the stars. This is a very spiritual place and would be a wonderful place to have a yoga or meditation retreat. Aida also teaches yoga (as I also happen to). I would highly recommend this place for couples and for singles. I felt completely safe and I’ve done a lot of travelling as a single woman, and also as a couple. I hope one day I can return for a meditation/yoga retreat with my friends. Thank you Aida!

TRATO AMABLE

Reviewed By diva2000us

Great for beach hippies

Reviewed By Roe77

If you’re the sort of person who wants to stay right on the beach and doesn’t shower much then this is an ideal place for you. The good stuff: There’s two rooms above the restaurant with a private deck overlooking the sea where you can whale watch. The WiFi works well and the staff are so chilled they don’t really care what you do. The less good stuff: One room has a basic, grimey bathroom with a toilet which might not flush and instead of a door there’s a tiny, thin curtain whose only purpose appears to be decorative. The other room doesn’t have a shower so best to use the sea. The rooms aren’t clean but hey, it is what it is. Plus it’s like 100 pesos per person and you’re free to just enjoy the beach.
