Noisy with unruly guests and no apology

Reviewed By TLK1408

It's the second time we booked into the lodge, and it's also the last time. We reserved 4 double rooms, one a luxury (nothing luxurious I may add, the furniture is worn and old and DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR). We only got to sleep after 3 am as a group was having a massive party in a room opposite ours. Despite calling the night duty manager several times to complain about the unruly and loud guests, no action was taken. At check-out, I informed the manager about the experience, only to be told “we are sorry but it's a long-term SAPS booking.” Obviously, the income the government brings in is more important than the short-term guests. Definitely not recommend if you value your sleep and service.

Komati River Chalets

Komati River Chalets is nestled on the confluence of the Komati and Crocodile Rivers in the Southern Kruger Park region of Mpumalanga’s wild frontier. Situated on 12 acres of Komati river front wilderness ensures that this is one of the regions premier country estates. The famous Kruger National Park, Crocodile bridge gate is a mere 12km from the lodge and the sweet veld grasses of the South Eastern Kruger National Park ensure that this is arguably the best game viewing area of the entire park as vast herds of plains game and predators alike are attracted to the spoils of this pristine area. Both Mozambique and Swaziland are but a stone throw from Komati River Chalets providing the perfect base from which to explore both exotic destinations. Set above the flood plain of the Komati River, the restaurant, bar and pool facilities, and the individual chalets are no more than fifty meters from the water’s edge where pods of hippos and an array of spectacular bird life will entertain for hours on end. The attention to detail and hands on management style of this family owned property ensure that Komati River Chalets is the ideal destination for the adventurous traveller.

Great stay, well maintained rooms and grounds, load shedding by Eskom no problem due to very efficient generator, close to the wonderful golf course which suits me. Problem is trucks going to border post that block the entrance to the access road to the chalets in the evening. Police had to assist us getting through.

Bo Kamer is a neat guest house. the staff is hospitable and the room service is great. the environment is tidy and well catered for. There is an automatic generator on the premises in case of power failures. the guest house uses Gas Geysers in case of power failures. The most important is the breakfast. I enjoyed the breakfast served, you will have the kind of a balanced breakfast you only eat once in a while. The variety served for breakfast will make you want to come again. you will find a great place to stay while you are in Ermelo. In my opinion you should stay at Bo Kamer everytime you visit Ermelo.

Likweti Lodge

"Likweti" is the SiSwati word for "morning star", which symbolises new beginnings. The Private Reserve includes a four-star lodge and an estate. Those in the know say that location is everything. We tend to agree. But we also believe in a return to nature and in creating a sustainable lifestyle. This 2 000-hectare unique Lowveld paradise is located a mere 10 minutes' drive from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport(KMIA), just 11 minutes from White River and only 20 minutes from Nelspruit. Nearby attractions include the world famous Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon and even the sunny beaches of Mozambique. Swaziland, the smallest country in the Southern hemisphere, is also within reach. Likweti lies both above and below the mist belts of the distant Swazi mountain escarpment in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Giraffe, nyala and warthog families wander freely on the property. Bird life abounds, with over 300 species calling the reserve home - a birdwatcher's paradise. Feathered residents include the elusive African Finfoot. Nocturnal sightings of bush baby, porcupine, serval and genet complete this tranquil bush experience. Accommodation at Likweti Lodge has been designed with maximum privacy and indulgent comfort top-of-mind ensuring that guests will enjoy their tranquil bush experience in the height of 4-star comfort.

Beautiful Lodge

When we were travelling to Likweti we put the Google coordinates in the Sat Nav but it took us to the wrong place! Without the help, by phone, from a member of the staff we would not have found Likweti at all. The lodge room was absolutely fabulous and it was "dressed" superbly. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. The outside space was an added extra. The meals were very tasty and served in the main lodge. This is the only area for WiFi access. During our stay we were very well looked after by all the staff and the accommodation and staff made our last night of our holiday special.

Exceeded expectations

After reading some negative reviews I was prepared to encounter some issues. Instead, we had a beautiful room, everything was clean and worked well, food was excellent and portions were very large, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our fireplace and freestanding bathtub were nice, romantic touches. The setting is absolutely stunning, enhanced by the colours of the season. We weren't in the equestrian area, which may account for the differences, so I'd recommend staying where we did until the reviews of the equestrian area improve.

The Orchards Farm Cottages need some serious upgrading and maintenance. There is such a good opportunity to make the place better. Not suitable for a group of friends/family - no communal space that can be used to gather. The space offered to have a gathering is attached to the main house. Linda and her family are very good hosts and try to make everything as comfortable as possible.
