With only 2 full days in Lisbon, I wanted to book a tour that would allow us to see as much as possible. The most popular tours on TripAdvisor are the walking tours, however in the 4 hours they allow to only cover one, possibly two of the most popular neighborhoods in Lisbon, I kept scrolling until page 4 of tours when I came across THIS tour from Essencia da Latitude. For 5 hours we got every part of Lisbon and in the hot temps, we were privately chauffeured around by Daniel (superb!) but then stopped often for a good view or to see the various monuments or churches that make Lisbon so special. Growing up and still living in Lisbon, Daniel was an excellent guide as he knew everything! We could tell he was very proud of his city and he loved showing us as much as possible. He was a whizz at maneuvering through the vey narrow streets of old Lisbon, but then took us far away from the old part to also include the newer parts of the city. My husband and I later said we never would have been able to cover all of that ground on our own, even if we had stayed in Lisbon longer. After doing this tour, we felt we HAD seen and learned everything there was to about Lisbon and chose to spend out last day outside of the city. I also chose this tour because it was labeled with the “clean and safe” stamp and by being in a private tour we were even more assured that our contact with others would be at a minimum. Both we and Daniel wore masks, which did NOT take away from enjoying the tour, plus Daniel always opened and closed the vehicle door FOR us, also a hygiene measure. Daniel was very proud of the fact that Lisbon is making all attempts to “go green” for a lack of a better word and stops for water included a cooler with a glass flask with water and served in paper cups. We do hope that once the Covid period allows Portugal to fully recover, they can continue this effort and gain more world recognition for it. At the end of our tour, Daniel gave us many recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing and followed up per WhatsApp to make sure we had our answers and to thank us again for allowing him to show us Lisbon. We have never had such a friendly, interesting and downright good person as a tour guide before and we HIGHLY recommend Daniel and Essencia da Latitude. In closing I would just like to say that overall, we as Swiss felt SAFER in Portugal than we do here in our own country. The Portuguese continue to take the Covid situation very seriously and sanitizing and mask wearing have become the norm there, even out in the open streets...it became second nature to us and a small price to pay for being able to stay healthy and enjoy traveling in such a beautiful country as Portugal!!!!

Starting the day trip in Lisbon the Sintra guided tour will show you one of the most iconic places in Portugal that was for a very long time a sanctuary for the Portuguese Royal family. Within mountains and with a particular weather you can start by visiting the Pena Palace, one of the greatest expressions of 19th-century Romanticism and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. After this breathtaking visit follow to one of the most surprising Sintra's monuments, The Quinta da Regaleira, located on the outskirts of the town built in the last days of the Portuguese monarchy. Pass by the National Sintra Palace and stop in Cabo da Roca, 150 meters above the sea, here you can have a panoramic view over the coast. Stop for lunch with a sea view. After, follow to the Cascais Village, visiting the marina and having a walk in this seacoast fisherman village. In the return to Lisbon you'll pass by Estoril and follow through a seaside road.

Sintra is a beautiful & romantic town in Lisbon. A day trip to Sintra & the Penna palace has left me with replenished energy and superb sensual booster rather than a days physical energy drain out, touring the whole place! Being the last palace built of the 19th century, it has a mix of modern majesty and the ancient mix of architecture. The surrounding forest designed & created with more than 2000 species of trees brought from all over the world, gives us the peaks of freshness, when you walk through the woods. Walking uphill to the Cross at the highest point of the hill was a thrill. Apart from the Sintra town hop-in hop-off tour buses, you have a seperate bus that operates as hop-in & off, inside the penna palace hill gates. Start early from Lisbon to Sintra to breathe in a lengthy time in the Penna palace & the woods and not to miss, the Cape Roca which is the western most edge of the European continent overlooking the Atlantic ocean. You get a train to Sintra from Rossio metro station at Placa Avenida. Organised tours to Sintra from Lisbon are quite expensive. Visit to the Moorish castle can be optimal and a personal choice.
