10 Casinos & Gambling in New Mexico That You Shouldn't Miss

July 10, 2021 Viva Honore

With its rich cultural heritage from Native American and Spanish settlers, New Mexico has been both a Spanish colony and a Mexican colony, and still retains a strong individual identity within the United States. The landscape is breathtaking, the food incredible, and there is a thriving cultural scene, all of which makes New Mexico, and Santa Fe in particular, a great place all year long.

My husband and I stayed at this resort for a few days on a New Mexico trip. It was extremely comfortable and we even got a free upgrade to a suite which was huge and luxurious. The pool and hot tub were lovely, we enjoyed playing the slot machines, and my aromatherapy soak treatment at the spa was heavenly. It's also conveniently near I-25 and has a gorgeous view of the Sandia mountain. I'd definitely stay here again!

Ruidoso Downs Race Track

Race track that is the home to the world's richest quarter horse race - the All American Futurity. Racing runs most Fridays through Sundays from mid-May through Labor Day.

Reviewed By Golfdude65 - San Diego, United States

This weekend the horse racing scene came to life ,however the “Track” was opened without spectators on a trial basis . For years Ruidoso Downs has been the mainstay of recreation for tourists the country over. It offers quality race horse racing with inexpensive food and drink and you can enter free if you wish. Parking is also free and plentiful on most days and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. All this free stuff does not mean you can’t go in style if you should choose. One of the best things is all the options available. The racing season brings the Beautiful Village of Ruidoso to life with every type of artisan shop imaginable to allow for a well rounded weekend in the mountains for all the family. I definitely recommend Ruidoso Downs Track located near the Village of Ruidoso. C Man

Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel

With over 1,600 of the loosest slot machines and the friendliest table games dealers, The Star is New Mexico’s Best Bet.

Reviewed By Traveler_GW - Alexandria, United States

First and foremost... the Casino name is correct in the title of this review and not this page, as documented in the picture (as of 2020). It is the Santa Ana Star Casino. Now, If you are looking for the Las Vegas experience in New Mexico, this is where you want to go. Entering the hotel you are greeted with a multi-story tall waterfall sculpture. Taking the escalator up to the main casino floor you are greeted by the Juniper Steak House and the fantastic smell that goes with it (grilled, quality steaks). Moving on you will find a large casino that winds around the floor. It has table pits and all of the latest slot machines. Although the casino does allow smoking, there is a large, glass walled section of the main casino floor that is a non-smoking room. The casino features a nice intimate show stage aptly called The Stage that hosts comedy shows and musical acts of both regional and national noteriety. The stage serves drinks and has a bar. It also serves bar food but I wouldn't recommend it. There is a sports book at Santa Ana Star. I don't know about alcohol on the casino floor as I was not drinking that night. The gaming was comfortable and inviting. I was there 3 hours and left only $5 down (playing craps; the guy next to me made a fortune... I should have bet with him). Since I won a canvas duffel bag from the player's club, I actually came out ahead. The staff is very nice and friendly, but professional. The only warning I have about this place is that the road that leads from the Highway to the Santa Ana Star carries a lot of traffic and has a few traffic lights, so your last mile and a half may take 10 minutes to get through.
