Mt. Yufu

Reviewed By ShelleyYam - Singapore, Singapore

You may have read the forgoing reviews and think well Mount Yufu is an easy climb. Well, yes and no. My husband and I decided to make the attempt with nominal training. We took approximately 4 hours to go up and down. I made it to the cradle whilst he made it to the top of the east peak which is purportedly easier. What made it more difficult was that for most of the climb, the path was littered with loose rocks and stones. If you do not have the appropriate hiking shoes, your feet and ankles would be in for a battering and you constantly have to watch you balance as the rocks can easily slide or give way. For me the descent was extra challenging because it was punishing on the knees as well. Having said that the path to the summit was well- trodden and clearly marked. The numerous switchbacks made for a gentler slope. We also noticed many elderly folk armed with hiking poles making the ascent and descent, as well as parents with young kids doing the climb. That of course galvanized us to make it to the top! The views were worth it!

Yunotsubo Kaido

Reviewed By ANParish - Busan, South Korea

Yunotsubo Road is the main shopping road for tourists in Yufuin. It's not far from the train station and bus terminal. You just walk straight out of the train station and jog slightly to the right onto a diagonal street once you cross a small bridge. One of the first stores you'll see on your left is one selling Studio Ghibli merchandise - Totorro, Laputa, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc. As you keep following the road towards the mountains, you'll see lots of different shops and restaurants - some modern, some traditional. Prices are generally reasonable for a tourist area. There is a car museum and a Marc Chagall art museum as you approach the mountains and Lake Kinrin.

Showa Retro Park Yufuin Showakan -ALWAYS-

Yufuin Showa-kan presents a smorgasbord of reproductions of Showa period streetscapes that are sure to rouse feelings of nostalgia. The nostalgic cars at the entrance are just one example. Inside, barber shops, camera stores, electronic goods, doctor’s clinics, tiny bars, post offices, schools, public bath houses, cheap candy stores, and domestic interiors, such as the kitchens and lounge rooms of the time, are all waiting to take you on a time slip to the Showa 30s

Lake Kinrin

Reviewed By maypatcha - Howick, New Zealand

We went there with our baby in the carrier. It’s quite peaceful. We can see many fish and birds around there. If you have time, you should sit at the cafe near around the lake.
