We booked a lunch and wine tasting for a group of 40 of our friends and family while travelling together prior to our wedding nearby. We unanimously decided that this was one of the best experiences of our entire trip (if not the best), and I cannot recommend the experience enough. The food was excellent, the wine was excellent - a great range to suit every palate, the service was excellent and very personal - delivered by the Count of Petit-Thouars himself, along with his family. The location is divine. A true slice of paradise. Get here now.

This was an amazing find. Most of the castles we had visited were the beautiful chateaus that were designed for leisure. This castle was designed for war. The interior is very large with many different towers and look out points. It's also famous for Joan of Arc meeting the French king. But I enjoyed the military aspect of it much more. The grounds are large and walking shoes are a must. The towers are accessible at ground level but you can climb both up and down the interior of the towers to see how the towers would defend against invasions. The castle also had walkways that could be locked but are open to the public. Just a wonderful trip. We spent hours walking around the fortress.

Sainte-Chapelle de Champigny sur Veude

Maurice at our B&B helped us by calling the attendant a day or so ahead to schedule an appointment. The attendant met us right on time at the entrance gate and pointed us to the entrance of the Chapelle. We did not opt to tour the Chateau but focused on the Chapelle. Similar to Sainte Chapelle in Paris, this Chapelle was built to house relics of the passion of Christ by the Bourbons, the descendants of King Louis IX. There are sheets describing the glass and the history located in the Chapelle. The beautiful setting in the village of Champigny, the history and the remarkable stained glass depicting multiple layers of history make this Chapelle definitely worth visiting if you are in the area near Chinon.

Le Vazereau

Reviewed By bebsaurus_13 - Paris, France

We found Vazereau on a website for farmers and producers who sell their products directly at the farm as we were hoping to try the local goat's cheeses the region is famous for. It was only a short drive out of Chinon, and easy enough to find. We visited the cheese shop first, where the woman behind the counter was helpful and informative. We tried several of the cheeses before settling on a couple to buy. The cheeses, which range for the classic bûche, to several more matured versions, as well as tommes, a blue, a camembert style, and lots of fresh soft cheeses, were excellent. While at the shop we also bought a bag of feed for the goats, housed in a shed on the other side of the road to the farm shop. Feeding the goats was quite fun, they have so much personality and no qualms about pushing each other out of the way for the feed. It was a great place to stop, highly recommended!
