We booked a 3h canyoning trip in advance (contact via WhatsApp with Rashid +96892360136). There are two tours: A 5 hour tour through the snake canyon and a shorter tour through another canyon close by. The longer tour bigger jumps and longer abseiling. But the canyon didn’t carry enough water thou we did the 3 h tour. We had a great tour and felt very safe. Our guide took us afterwards to his home where we had lunch which was delicious. (Bring long shorts for the home visit to be polite). We highly recommend the tour to everybody who visits this area and is a little adventurous.

Track Wadi Bani Awf

You can camp wherever you wishes in amazing landscapes. Or stay at the Bait Bimah place where you will find guides for hikings and canyoing. Beautiful wadi and not too difficult walks with young children if you start by the end of the little snake canyon (in the opposite way of the great little snake canyon canyoing pathway). You can walk there, cross the wadi, swim in natural swimming pools and practice very easy canyoing with youbg children (2 and a half and 5 years old). To get there you must have a 4x4 otherwise it is impossible.

At just over 2000 meter. Jebel Shams Resort is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the famous "Grand Canyon of Oman" and a visit to us on Oman's highest Mountain at approximately 3000 Meter is great place from which to enjoy the mountain. A warm welcome is ready for all those weary adventurers who visit it. Enjoy a perfect starry night sky outside one of our Arabic Rents or Chalets and enjoy a warming campfire at night. During the day there are lots of lovely walks and treks to suit all levels of fitness. For those who want to just relax then there is a swimming pool and lovely views of the surrounding stunning mountain vista.

Wadi Ghul - Oman's Grand Canyon

Reviewed By I8925AJandrewa - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

We drove to Jebel Shams for a couple of days of walking in the mountains. We didn't do what most people seem to come here to do. We had decided in advance that the Balcony Walk probably wasn't for us - it looked a bit too busy and a bit too scary in places. We spent the first day following the W4 walk along the top of the canyon. It's a steady walk requiring only a moderate level of fitness. We didn't see another walker on the W4 route all day, so I would recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of peace and quiet. The views are breathtaking and there are plenty of great spots to sit and have lunch. On the second day, we picked up a trail behind one of the resorts in Jebel Shams, walked it for a while before going off piste to explore the nearby gullies. It was a bit more strenuous with some slow going on the rocky descents, but still accessible to most.

Bahla Fort

This site is currently undergoing repairs. Tours are unavailable at this time.

Reviewed By kevins684 - Pontypridd, United Kingdom

Of all the forts visited in Oman, I think Bahla was my favourite. It just looks the part. Finished in mud baked and cracked in the sun embedded with pebbles, gravel, broken pottery, as if it had been there in this state for hundreds of years. It stands proudly on a hill looking over the adjacent properties visible from kilometres away. And it covers a large area with several towers and different buildings to explore on many levels with interconnecting stairways and walkways. There is no information in any of the rooms, neither are they furnished in any way, or, unlike the nearby Jibreen castle, is there an audio guide. But I loved it, it is a real fort from childhood days.
