The Cardinals Hat

The Cardinal's Hat is Worcester's oldest inn and originally dates back to the fourteenth century. A sensitive restoration in 2013 has turned it back in to a traditional English ale house, with Georgian city rooms, retaining a wonderful sense of its unique heritage. All rooms boast antique Georgian furniture, comfy beds, luxury bathrooms TV and wifi, and tea and coffee making facilities with Royal Worcester crockery. A continental breakfast to go is provided at your door daily, or alternatively if you have a little time to spare a cooked breakfast can be enjoyed across the street at Worcester’s best Cafe, Mac and Jacks.

Ideal Location for a City Break

Reviewed By TheBrumLowes

Iysha When booking a place to stay over the weekend I tried to steer clear of your generic hotel and book something with a little character. And I can honestly say Worcesters oldest pub did not disappoint on that front. Chocked full of character it offered a beautifully designed room with all the modern amenities needed for an enjoyable stay! Comfy bed included. We made dinner plans so I can’t comment on the food but I will say that the complimentary picnic basket filled with breakfast items was a lovely touch, plenty for the husband and I to enjoy. It was a pub on a Saturday night so as to be expected we could hear the patrons downstairs after returning from our evening out however this was honestly no issue for me. Reasonably priced, extremely friendly staff and an excellent location. What more could you ask for?! Kyle Location: 10/10 - Plenty of restaurants, pubs and attractions right on your doorstep. Across from large multi-story car park where you can get a 20% discount with your stay. Room: 7/10 - Has everything you need although felt a little cramped. Was able to hear chatter outside until late but that comes with staying at a busy pub I guess. May be an issue you're a light sleeper. Staff: 9/10 - Very friendly and accommodating. Drop off a breakfast hamper in the morning. Nice touch

Kings Arms Cleobury Mortimer

Excellent Food.

Reviewed By Stablelad

We stopped at the Kings Arms for lunch while travelling to our holiday accommodation. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by friendly bar staff. The pub was very clean and had a lovely feel to it. We ordered the steak and ale pie, one with mash and veg the other with chips and peas. Oh boy, the pie was so tender, tasty and rich. The chips, mash and veg were all cooked to perfection. Wish we lived nearby so we could visit again to try other dishes. Overall friendly staff, clean pub, great food. If passing, give it a try.

What a Gem of a place

I would have stopped in the centre of Worcester but happened across this lovely little Inn and thought I would try it instead.....and I was very pleased I did. Good free car park to the side with easy access to the Inn itself were I was dealt with quickly and efficiently. The bar areas are lovely and snug with a super log fire and a large dining area. It was the day of the week they offer a deal with two steaks, but not a problem for a single traveller they just halved the bill; the steak was delicious as were the wine I had with it and the beer to start with all well kept. Interestingly nobody ever came back and offered a desert menu to me. I was full but you could be missing sales if not joined up. The staff were all very nice indeed and new what they were doing. The rooms all good, nice big shower, comfy bed and just very nicely decorated to a great standard. To say the room was over a pub it was also pretty quiet as was the road outside. I would recommend this place and I would also stop over here again.

Wonderful village hotel

Reviewed By Dave M

Walter de Cantelupe is a charming pub/hotel in the village of Kempsey (5miles and a £10 taxi fare from Worcester) There is plenty of on-site parking. When we arrived the owner/manager/chef, Martin, gave us a wonderful welcome and as our rooms weren’t quite ready (as 1 of his team had developed Covid) we were given a complimentary refreshing pot of tea which we had in the garden at the back of the pub. Martin was charming throughout our stay - he was great to have a chat with making everyone feel ‘at home’. We had excellent breakfasts (‘full English’ after chilled melon & blueberries). I would thoroughly recommend booking for an evening meal on Thursday to Saturday evening (or Sunday lunch) as everything is freshly prepared and cooked by Martin himself using locally sourced ingredients. I had a very tasty Steak’n’ale pie with chips and fresh veg and my wife had a marvellous salmon fillet with baby new potatoes and veg. Prices were very reasonable. The bar sells a couple of well kept real ales (Timothy Taylor’Landlord’ and Wye Valley Bitter) and stocks a range of wines, spirits and other drinks. Everyone who visited the pub were all very friendly and you could sit and chat in front of the roaring fire. Our room was charming - a lovely comfortable bed, double glazing (which kept out all the noise), plenty of complimentary tea/coffee and soft drinks and excellent free Wi-Fi. The only slight negative was the water wasn’t hot enough for a bath in the afternoon but this wasn’t a problem in the morning. If visiting the area I would thoroughly recommend contacting Walter de Cantelupe directly to book a room and a table for an evening meal - you won’t be disappointed!

Beautiful room above a lovely bistro restaurant, we stayed there overnight after an evening at Worcester Races. Our large room had just been excellently refurbished at the top of the building and was very comfortable. The bistro has friendly and helpful staff with a beautiful outside dining area at the back, the food is very good and this all within a 15 minute walk to the racecourse. Thank you very much in contributing to a lovely night at the races!

Great Host

Decent hotel for the price. Rooms are a little tired but for a cheap hotel in the middle of town centre it was fine. Breakfast was great. Parking was right next to the hotel (£6 extra cost for 24 hours) Easy walking distance to shops and amenities. Some rooms a good view of the River as well. Host was great and couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Pub is really nice as well and felt like a proper old school pub which is no bad thing.

Several bad experiences

Reviewed By Joe W

We have visited the Lenchford for food only, several times over the last couple of years because it is a convenient place to meet family who live in Worcestershire. The location on the river is lovely, but we have experienced several problems with the food. Today a group of us had the carvery and we already expressed some issues to the waitress that the meat was tough and too rare and some of the vegetable dishes had not been properly heated. I thought a professional kitchen would test the temperature of dishes with a probe before putting them out. We were only asked if our meals were OK after we had eaten them. The dessert I had was also quite small. Last October I paid half towards a family birthday gathering in a private room and one member of our group had a vegetarian dish that was almost inedible, a nut roast that was cooked so hard it could hardly be cut. I didn't complain at the time because it was a party. We have also visited last summer for a lunch outside and experienced a long wait, small portions and some dishes missing from the menu, despite being there on a quiet weekday near opening time. It seems like they are missing a trick here because it could be such a lovely place, and with other good eating places in a nearby radius, customers might think twice on whether to keep returning, in the personal opinion of this reviewer.
