10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Torquay: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 24, 2023 Kiesha Cripe

Mild ocean breezes, sandy beaches and swaying Torbay Palms give the small English town of Torquay a distinctively Mediterranean feel. More than just a beach spot, Torquay boasts an enormous coastal aviary and the famous Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves. Agatha Christie spent most of her life here, and the city is now home to multiple film companies. With such a rich literary history, Torquay may be the perfect place to finish writing that novel or screenplay, or just to relax with a good mystery.

We stayed for one night and had a lovely time there. The hosts were very warm, welcoming, ensuring a face to face check in to go through details and remember our names. The interior design is very tasteful and great breakfast options (recommend the home made yogurt) plus the honesty bar. Thank you for hosting a lovely stay.

Beautiful guest house, amazing owners.

We recently stayed here for two nights and were absolutely delighted with everything. The guest house is beautiful, very clean and modern. The rooms are very spacious, the bed very comfortable and everything is though of. There are tea and coffee making facilities and every little detail is thought of, from a hairdryer, to every toiletry you can think of, to a bottle opener! There is every option for breakfast, but we had the full English which was very tasty. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and lovely to talk to. It is very well located, it's close to the train station and the town. We will definitely return there and would highly recommend a stay here.

Another great stay

Just back from another stay at the Devon Court. Martin and Kyra are the most accommodating hosts and the quality of their offering is excellent. I’ve stayed in 5* hotels that haven’t offered a level of quality anywhere nears theirs. Rooms are spotless, have tea trays, fans and toiletries. They even have bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast is excellent and there is free parking. If you like to swim, the oil area has had a lot of investment and is now very modernised, with comfortable loungers and lovely private garden and terrace. The pics on trip advisor are out of date! Thank you for another excellent stay and hope to see you soon

What a great place! A beautiful Edwardian house with a landing from a film set. Our room was standard but only in words. The bed was most comfortable and although we took our own pillows, (we are fussy) they were not needed. A very good shower always another bonus. Andrew the owner was most welcoming and the attention was great from the moment we arrived until we left. The staff were lovely and could not do enough. Breakfast was exceptionally good! A real bonus is the licensed bar which allowed us to have a cheeky Gin and Tonic before going out. We loved it and it will certainly be our go to place when we next visit Torquay.

A pub with rooms

Reviewed By gooneronthemove

From reading their website it describes a good hotel with a pub as a small part of it. The reality is quite the opposite. The pub/bar area dominates everything and the arrangement is very similar to premier inn or wetherspoons hotels....its a pub with hotel rooms.Breakfast is served in the bar area and you have to order your choice at the bar. There is no separate dining area or lounge as you would expect in a hotel of this size. Sea view rooms are advertised in all but two rooms.....which technically is true if you are OK with a sea view out the corner of the window. There are many outsiders using the facilties including workmen after a day's work.....which makes the car park even more difficult to get a space in for residents. The room had been recently refurbished but the walls are paper thin... we could hear next door snoring during the night ! Given all this we felt it was overpriced and it should be more honest about the reality of the hotel arrangement so that those who are OK with the arrangement are attracted and those of us who want a hotel with all the normal facilities can go elsewhere

Ashleigh House

Ashleigh House is uniquely situated in a residential part of Torquay just a five minute walk from the Harbour and shops. Despite being so close to the Town it is very quiet. Guests will not be disturbed by traffic or noisy passers by. Parking in Meadfoot Lane is restricted to residents and guests only making it virtually traffic free, and guarantees a peaceful nights sleep and safe parking. Despite the quiet location, everything that Torquay has to offer is within easy walking distance. Many guests choose to have a holiday from driving as the shops, beaches, restaurants, cafe bars, tourist attractions, theatres and travel links are all close at hand. Indeed, four of Torquay's best restaurants are within a ten minute walk! We have been running Ashleigh House since 1992 and have found a winning formula of clean, comfortable and well appointed accommodation at realistic prices with some of those little extras usually associated with more expensive accommodation. We want our guests to leave us feeling that they have received value for money. With four rooms we can ensure personal attention and a homely atmosphere. Three rooms have en-suite and our large family room has its own private bathroom. All rooms are comfortably furnished with good quality furniture and bedlinen and well maintained. All rooms come complete with colour TV, beverage tray and towels and the rooms are cleaned daily. Here at Ashleigh House we take breakfast seriously. The buffet table offers a range of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, cereal bars and juice and a selection of teas and coffees. Then guests may choose either the Full English breakfast or pick from the Light Breakfast menu Each is freshly cooked to order. We have a small garden at the front of the house, with views across to Torquay toward Dartmoor. We are ideally placed for everything that Torquay has to offer. The shops, beaches, coastal paths and transport links are all within easy walking distance.

Very good and for a great price

Let’s do this 4 in a bed style: Hosting: 10/10 Dawn couldn’t do enough. From the communication before we arrived, to the warm welcome, to her hosting at breakfast and the the interest she showed in what we were doing etc. Facilities: 9/10 The room was spacious and bright for the price we paid. Everything you needed was in the room, thought the extensive tea and coffee making set was a nice touch, as were the glass bottles of water. Only point of criticism was that the sink was in the room rather than the en suite. Cleanliness: 9/10 Generally very clean. Sleep: 10/10 A lovely comfy bed. No noise. A great nights sleep. Breakfast: 6/10 A good continental spread but I thought the cooked breakfast was a little lacking, undercooked and didn’t seem great quality. I do wonder if this is because Dawn is doing everything herself. Would we stay again? Yes. Pay what you think your stay was worth: We paid £58 for one night (with a booking.com 10% discount) which I think was very reasonable for what we received. Happy to pay that and probably would have been happy with a little more. Two points that may be helpful for people reading this. Firstly the walk from the seafront/city centre up to the B&B is a steep one, not a long one but it is steep. Secondly, Dawn has a resident, young friendly spaniel, this was great for us as we’re big dog people but he may be a bit too boisterous for people who don’t particularly like dogs.
