Wonderful stay

We stayed in the Manor suite for one night. The host was excellent, ringing prior to our 4pm arrival to let us know our room was available earlier if we preferred. Very easy to access and no road noise whatsoever from the A66. There were hand made chocolates, as well as cake and shortbread in the room, a lovely welcoming touch. The suite itself was huge, very comfortable and beautifully decorated, totally suited to the age of the manor. Lovely gardens too where we sat in the sun late afternoon. The room has a mini fridge stocked with prosecco and champagne which you purchase, tea, coffee machine, and downstairs had a range of alcohol and wine in the honesty bar. The shower is above the deep, roll top copper bath with curtain surrounding, something to be aware of for some. The breakfast was fantastic, locally sourced produce, one of the best breakfast experiences we’ve had in a hotel. One night wasn’t long enough!

Stayed while visiting a local town with my mother, live wires exposed from the ceiling, loud and smelly maceration loo and no word of a lie, you could of done serious damage had you hit someone with the god knows how old Crossaint that was left out for breakfast, honestly it was like a brick. The orange juice was also left in the sunlight and tasted awful. The only reason it got 2 stars, was the fact the gent that checked us in was reasonably pleasant!

Extremely rude owner…

Reviewed By Susanoldmeldrum

We stayed a night at this Inn with our two dogs. The room was smelly and unclean. The wash hand basin was cracked. We had dinner there which was mediocre and quite expensive for what, it was. In the morning we wanted to let our dogs out and the front door was locked (it was also the Fire Exit) we had to wait an hour and a half for the owner to appear to unlock the door. When we suggested it was quite dangerous to lock the fire exit which was the front door, she was extremely rude. This rudeness carried on through breakfast and she continued her abuse, completely unacceptable. Her employers liability insurance certificates that were on display were also three years out of date. We will not be going back, and I can not recommend it to anyone…

Rare and lovely

Millgate House is a treat -- a superb Regency house, a wonderfully comfortable and elegant bed and breakfast, and the home of charming hosts. You will breakfast in the magnificent dining room, and maybe have tea when you arrive in the gracious and graceful drawing room. Richmond is a small town at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the walking paradise. You are only a half hour from York, two hours from the east coast of York, and an hour and a half from the spectacular Lake District. Tim and Austin serve a delicious breakfast, everything fresh and in season. My favorite was eggs with steamed hot smoked Haddock, very English, very delicious. Plus I had a couple of croissants with jam. That's just one choice. The rooms are large and especially luxurious because of the views, the comfy bed, the comfy bathrooms. Yes, comfy. Armchairs, pictures, everything to make you feel as if you are, and that's the truth, in a good friend's best guestroom. Many know the gardens at Millgate House, as we learned following our stay as we travelled in England. Established on a small tiered space behind the house, the crowd of lovely plants slopes down the hill towards the river. Tim and Austin have amassed a little paradise of plants from hostas and tulips to a Himalayan rose tree right in the center. We saw spring blooms, but the summer and fall must be just wonderful. We miss Millgate House and its owners, and hope you will get a chance to stay there. Very very special.

For the price it was excellent, great location. fast Internet and decent breakfast. It is an old building or two and access to our room was through a number of corridors and stairs. Not the highest quality, however you get what you pay for, it was clean which is the main thing. Car parking is not guaranteed !
