First-rate boutique hotel

This hotel is an old house that has been updated lovingly. Pretty much every detail was taken care of in style, and the result is a fascinating, unique piece of Mexico that is easy to enjoy. The staff are kind and very attentive, particularly Yazmin at the front desk and a young man who was on duty in the evening shift, but really every staff member was wonderful. The food in the restaurant was fresh and creative, very Mexican but presented creatively and attractively, and the breakfast buffet was nice, authentic regional food. What is more, it is 50 feet from the zocalo (main street) and so was wonderful as a base for seeing Atlixco.

There are so many things great about this place. It’s location first then the staff is probably the best we had on our three week trip around Mexico. And to add to that the good restaurant and staff at the roof top Ártico 303. I became sick while we were there and we had to keep asking for another day. The girls there were very helpful and caring. A special thanks to them.

Luxury Accommodations at a Budget Price

Hands down the best 4 star hotel in which I have stayed in Mexico. I had a villa room with a private stairway leading to the door (but through the garage) and a balcony (shared for all rooms). The spacious rooms were clean with windows and doors providing cross ventilation when open. The bathroom was also spacious with a waterfall shower head in the separate glass door shower area. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was more than adequate, and a bountiful breakfast was included with my standard price. I could not have been more pleased with my accommodations in Puebla. Can't wait to go back.

The pyramid has been only partially excavated, contains approximately 4 miles of tunnels where pre-Hispanic murals can be admired.

Small property in a quiet area away from the town centre

The place is quite a hike from the ancient pyramid and church on the hilltop. rooms are nice but cold although to be fair, I went in December. I did not have a heater unlike one reviewer. Food in the restaurant is really not good and one is better off eating in the town and getting a cab back. Nice pool. December is not necessarily the best time to travel to Mexico or indeed anywhere in Central America if one seeks peace and quiet. This due to fiestas of all kinds going on at all times of the day AND night ! and there was a party going in a banqueting area with loud and rowdy guests

Great location, but terrible Wi-Fi

Reviewed By Marilyn C

I stayed here for 8 days in June/July. The hotel is in an awesome location that is walking distance to most major tourist sites in the city, as well as many shops, restaurants, cafes, tour buses, and the Zocalo (which was closed). The hotel room was medium size and had a flat screen TV (no English channels. I had a room on the 3rd floor (4th floor in the U.S.) with a Juliet balcony that faced the street, which I enjoyed. There was plenty of natural and artificial light in the room. There was an outlet by the bed to charge your electronics, and another by the desk. The WiFi in my room was terrible. It was very slow, and kept dropping the connection. I ended up using my phone as a hotspot the entire stay. The connection may have been better on the lower floors. The bathroom only had a shower, no tub, which was fine with me. The water was slightly hotter than lukewarm. There is no coffee maker in the room, but free coffee and tea is available in the lobby. They also provided 2 bottles of water per day. There was no food available at the hotel, but plenty of places to eat nearby, many of which deliver. Staff didn't speak English, but were very nice and helpful, particularly the housekeeping staff. I only paid $15.50 USD per night, which was a bargain. I would stay there again.

Close to Zocalo, but dim and dark rooms

Reviewed By Marilyn C

This hotel is on a deserted-looking block only a few minutes walking distance from the Zocalo. The entrance is a dark narrow passageway that looks like the entrance to a catacomb. The guest rooms are windowless, dark, and dimly lit, especially the ones on the ground floor. I declined these, and was given a room on an upper floor. It was still windowless and dimly lit, but less cave-like. The ceiling in my room was high, which I liked. It had a smart TV, but neither I nor the hotel staff was able to switch it to English. The bathroom was very small; toiletries were provided. The shower was hot, but the shower nozzle was small so the pressure was rather weak. The bath towels were thick, but very rough. The wifi worked well, which was surprising considering how old the hotel is and that the walls are stone. I could hear loud music from the Zocalo until the wee hours of the morning on Saturday night. Sunday night was quieter. I did not hear my neighbors, but this may have been because the hotel appeared to have few occupants. There is a ground floor terrace, but no rooftop terrace. There is no elevator. There is no food available at the hotel, but there are several restaurants and cafes nearby. Staff at the hotel are excellent; very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Most speak some English. Housekeeping did an excellent job cleaning my room. I booked this hotel at the last minute the weekend following the Day of the Dead. I paid $37 USD per night, including tax. This was about $10 - $15 too much, and not worth the price. If you book ahead of time, you can get a room for about $25 USD total per night. Even though the hotel has a certain rustic appeal, I wouldn't stay there again, even at $25 USD per night. I didn't like how dark and cold the rooms were, how deserted it felt, the block it was on, or the lack of amenities. However, if you don't mind windowless rooms, and want a quiet hotel near the Zocalo, you might like Hotel Bacantes.

Short budget stay

Reviewed By CharlotteB87

We needed a place to stay 1 night, and booked the same day in a bit of a hurry so we didn't really look into the place that much. It is OK, by all standards. The room was small and had no windows, but was clean and the hot water worked fine. I would recommend this only as a last option. It's true that it is in a street that seems sketchy, but I think the town is just like that (a bit loud and overcrowded, with lots of street vendors and such). I didn't feel it got so much better closer to the central plaza, but we didn't feel unsafe at all.
