10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Modena: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 27, 2023 Stefan Strunk

Known for its medieval history, its auto-making prowess (as home base of both Ferrari and Maserati) and its famous balsamic vinegar, Modena is a treat for visitors of all ages. The 12th-century Romanesque Cathedral of Modena, with its spectacular Ghirlandina bell tower (under restoration until the end of 2010), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just outside of town (and next to the car maker’s factory) in Maranello is Galleria Ferrari, dedicated to the brand and Italian motor racing industry.

Great B&B, Wonderful Hosts

Reviewed By Flyer779294

My wife and I stopped here on our way to Tuscany. This is a lovely B&B near the center of Modena. There are a number of restaurants nearby. The B&B is very lovely, clean and well done. There is gated parking in the rear, the rooms are very clean and the breakfast is the best I have had at a B&B. Everything is homemade by Gianna and tastes wonderful. She was a great host who was very nice and wanting to make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again.

La Maison Du Charme

La Maison du Charme is set in a beautiful liberty building close to the centre of Modena where the old walls used to stand. Decorated with antique furniture it offers a refined and warm ambience. Guests can enjoy two elegantly decorated suites, both provided with air conditioning and TV. The warm atmosphere and great attention to details makes it a unique place full of references to the extraordinarily rich traditions of the area. Piazza Grande, where the old Romanesque Cathedral stands, is only a five minutes walk away. Strolling around the medieval and baroque centre you can admire the old aristocratic palazzos and the Military Academy; the antique residence of the court of the House of Este. The “ Enzo Ferrari Museum” and the “ Maserati car factory” (in Viale Ciro Menotti) are both well within walking distance. The “ Osteria Francescana”, owned by the internationally famous chef Massimo Bottura, currently considered the second best restaurant in the world is within a stone’s throw of the unique and magnificent “Maison du Charme”.

Don’t book here unless you like sleeping on the street.

Reviewed By jacquelineab35

Don’t book here unless you like sleeping on the street. I can’t tell you any more about this place because they cancelled our reservation of 11 months, only 36 hours before our arrival, despite us having confirmed our arrival time 6 weeks previously. They had decided to give the room to someone else. They claimed to have no record of our booking although difficult to explain why they contacted us to ask us to cancel if they hadn’t got the booking. The owner was very unhelpful and made no attempt to work with her booking agent to resolve the issue. She did not respond to the booking agent’s calls to confirm she had double booked, which delayed finding alternative accommodation by a further 12 hours. In addition she tried to pass blame to us suggesting we should have called her directly a month before the arrival date to check she was still in business and able to accommodate us. At such short notice we were unable to get another room in the town.

We checked out early

Reviewed By Garybd65

We were booked for 4 nights and checked out after 2. The bed was very hard and very short. The sheets might have come from the itchy and scratchy burlap store if Modena has one. I’m 5’10” and I hit my head and feet on the head and footboard as I stretched out in my sleep, waking myself up over and over. After two sleepless nights, we checked into another hotel and wrote off the cost as lessons learned. The hotel staff said they would have done something to make it better, but I don’t think they had a spare bed and mattress. I’m sure they also would have provided more toilet paper had we asked, but it was late when we realized the maid hadn’t replenished it so we bought our own. 1/3 of the light bulbs were burnt out and, I’m sure the staff would have replaced them, but we didn’t bother to ask because the bed was a deal breaker. The faucet in the kitchenette worked, but was not secured to the counter adding to the sense of disrepair in the room. The rooms were interesting, but I was sorry to see that our room was dedicated to Annunzio the father of fascism who shaped Mussolini’s and Hitler’s thinking. Other rooms are dedicated to film makers and poets, but we were in the fascist room. There is also no signage outside the building stating the reception is on the 1st floor, so we were confused when we arrived as to how to check in, and emailed and called which led to a maid buzzing the building door open but not coming down, so I went floor to floor starting at the top until I found a maid who showed us the reception area in an apartment on the 1st floor. Also, like another reviewer, we noticed a strong smell of sewage—not in the room—but in the entry hall and elevator. And lastly, the bar downstairs is loud after the municipal deadline of midnight. Two floors up from the bar we could feel the pulsing of the music after 1am. The fact that this place has received awards from booking.com and trip advisor and primarily excellent reviews leaves me questioning whether I’ll ever look at trip advisor or booking.com ever again for ratings.

The whole place and the rooms are very stylish with antique furniture and other details. We really enjoyed the breakfast prepared by Elena, the owner of the place, who also provided us with the information where to go for local cheese, wines, ... Next times in Modena we would definitely stay there.

La gentilezza che non ti aspetti

Reviewed By Agnese I

Reviewed By Mogiko

Cassaforte all'intento dell'armadio a scomparsa. GIUDIZIO COMPLESSIVO : Per noi assolutamente consigliato
