10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Malindi: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 10, 2023 Joeann Galban

Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama stopped at Malindi on his way to India in 1498 and erected a pillar that remains overlooking the harbor, however precariously, to this day. Still popular with Europeans, Malindi is famed for coral reefs that lie just 1,000 feet off its shore, best seen at Malindi National Marine Park or nearby Watamu. Game fishing, surfing and simply relaxing on the beach are popular local pastimes. The narrow streets and market of Malindi's old town are worth a visit.

An Amazing Hidden Treasure

Place os really beautiful and quiet. Very serene cleanliness is top notch. They have very sizeable rooms and big bathrooms. Also there are fans that help controlling the 32°c temperature. The pool is clean and accommodates all ages and experience levels. The staff is very friendly don't shy away from requesting assistance. High recommendations for the food as well and all this in an affordable package. The list goes on and on Close to the Marine Park Beach and other great sites (Vasco da gama, snake farm, first church, Pier, also not that far is the gede ruins) Low note. Sheets and towels need faster replacing. Would have loved to get some shower gels and lotions to reducing luggage. An AC would still be better than fans but I guess cost would go up as well. Also pick up and drop off from the airport would really be great.

Wonderful peaceful hotel full of exotic decor from a 20 foot (metal) giraffe in the lush garden to antique gramophones to a plush love tent. Bathrooms huge and thoughtful details like fresh flowers on the bed. Kind of a camp casbah, spotlessly clean, and really good value for money.

Bad experience

Reviewed By Reubenkimani

Went to White Elephant for a late lunch and swimming, the rules are if you only swim you pay $5 but if you take meals you get to pay $3. So on this day we go have a meal but at the end we get an extra bill of $15 as opposed to $9 since we were three. The waiter acknowledged the mistake and referred us to the receptionist who couldn't even bulge nor listen instead she quickly punched the ETR machine. The management needs to work on the customer service and experience.

My worst weekend trip ever

I was a guest with my sons. We were robbed of our laptops and jewelry on our second night. The owner was very unhelpful and told us it was our fault. We spent the rest of the stay shuttling between Malindi police and the scene of the crime. Stay at villa mela at your own risk!

A peaceful

Reviewed By Sophie V

We stayed at Swahili house for one night in August 2019. Given the relative busyness and chaos of Malindi, Swahili House offered a green and peaceful respite. The building is beautiful and the rooftop terrace is a lovely place to relax. Rose was very welcoming and helpful, and we enjoyed spending time with the cats (especially Olivia), rabbit and guinea pigs.

Was there from Dec 15-16th 2016. The owner Elesheba was nothing but amazing. She was extremely helpful and offered the best service she could. We even got a late check out which enabled us to soak in the tranquil and picturesque views. We had a ball! Would go there again and recommend others to visit too. I would however advise visitors to come with a vehicle that has high clearance.
